Assassination!

Shocking news this week, as the RIP issued the following press release:

It is with great sadness and regret that I have to announce the following news.

At approximately 12.30 hours today RIP Periphery Director GT Spugman was assassinated by agents of an unknown power.

This act of callous murder has left the RIP without it's brilliant, vibrant leader and we all feel sadder for that fact.

Our thoughts go out to his family... wherever they are.

A book of condolence and remembrance will be placed at the Jiggly Room for public expressions of grief.

From this time forward RIP Emergency Protocol Two will be initiated.

Mona Luvsitt
Secretary to the office of the late GT Spugman - RIP PD.

At time of press, nobody has claimed responsibility for this foul and apparently senseless act, with the SSS news-room completely at a loss to think of who might even be a suspect, in order to make some sort of baseless accusation.

Mister Spugman will be sorely missed.

Skirmish In Yank

A lone Flagritz warship has bombarded a FCN base in Yank, killing a lone Kastorian miner, in what is suspected to be an inadvertent weapons firing.

Strange Bedfellows

The MOH have apparently declared a formal alliance with the IMP.

Stranger Bedfellows

Following his retirement from office as IMP patrol Commissioner, our news-room understands that long-time SSS #1 Fan Duke Githyanki is now pursuing a career as a table dancer at the Jiggly Room.

Good luck Duke, may your future be dotted with many bright One Stellar Bills!

Near Miss

The DTR News Wires are reporting that a DTR Senator had a near miss in a space battle this week. The as yet un-named Senator is understood to have been transiting from his homeworld to the Senate in Venice, when his vessel was involved in a space battle involving other parties.

It is not thought the DTR were being deliberately targeted.

Calypso

The dread pirate, and some might argue something somewhat darker, Calypso has announced her retirement this week, selling off her holdings, before returning into whatever pit of hell spawned her.

It is unknown who might have purchased her holdings, which include a fully functional pirate operation.

Decan

Temporal and spatial anomalies are being reported by travellers trying to move through the Decan system.

The cause of these anomalies are unknown, but rumours are circulating of strange rifts in space and time opening up, including one unconfirmed report that a freighter has been found drifting with no life-forms onboard, the crew having mysteriously vanished, leaving behind all of their belongings, and a table in the mess set for an un-eaten dinner.

RCF In Hot Water

Evidence has come to light of the RCF sponsoring pirate positions, following a battle in Yank that appeared to show up PIR scouts docked at an RCF base.

A DTR platform made the discovery when it annihilated a pirate ground party that had been dropping into orbit to capture an RCF freighter.

Suspicion is mounting however that it may have been some sort of set-up to make the RCF look bad, though an investigation by several parties is currently underway, with the DTR warning that they will not look kindly on the sponsors of Pirates.

Of course this being the DTR, they did take a moment to remind us all that the two major sponsors of mass piracy in recent years have been the IMP and GTT.

Renegade Kanji Press Release

Kourdda Gentle and Not-So-Gentle beings.

The deadline for payment for the safe release of the Wimble hostages from Arinna has passed.

The fate of these poor unfortunates will not be pleasant (for them) and is directly attributable to the greed of the MOH Nookta and the WMB Grandfather. I will not now be accepting offers, their fate is sealed.

I will however accept offers for the return of the OP to the wimbles, the price was going to be 50K but the place stinks so bad, and is so fouled with wimble faeces, urine and hair that I'll lower it to 25K. It is so disgusting that even Hive wont work there. I will accept offers up until day 5 this week after which the place will be levelled.

This operation has not improved my opinion of wimbles as a species.

Good Day

Kanji.

Halo News

More news of attacks by the terrorist Kanji in the Hittite system, this time on WMB outpost Permafrost. IND ground party Ronin 02 (65746), fresh from their exploits on Arinna, again landed in the outpost's starport and attacked the residents.

This time, however, they didn't have things all their own way. Their continued use of the IND badge allowed them to land directly in the outpost with the first the residents know being the sound of weapon fire. The local WMB defence forces reacted rapidly. In a short space of time, all the attackers were dead: 300 aquaphid and one human corpse to add to the account of the madman. One defending light tank was destroyed, thankfully we suffered no other casualties.

GT Spugman. A Eulogy.

(The scene opens on a packed Jiggly Room)

Mona Luvsitt - Loyal Secretary, and some time 'drinking' companion, to GT Spugman addresses the crowd.

She begins...

This is my last chance to say how I really feel about my dear departed Spuggy... please forgive my tears.

GT Spugman, owner of the Jiggly Room is no more.

He has ceased to be, bereft of life, he rests in peace, he has kicked the bucket, hopped the twig, bit the dust, snuffed it, breathed his last, and gone to meet the Great Jiggly Dancer in the sky, and I guess that we're all thinking how sad it is that a man of such talent, such capability and kindness, of such intelligence should now be so suddenly spirited away at the age of only forty, before he'd achieved many of the things of which he was capable, and before he'd had enough Iced Tea.

Well, I feel that I should say, "Nonsense. Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard! I hope he fries."

Mona is seen leaving the stage crying uncontrollably... The bar manager, Al Bundy, is waiting in the wings to offer her comfort, a shoulder to cry on and a stiff drink (at a very reasonable two-for-one!).

The guests start to mingle around the buffet selection as the dancers, all with black armbands (and not much else) start a "A Tribute to Spugman" - a Jiggly Dance the likes of you have never seen before!

(Fade to Black)

RCF Cleared Of Piracy

An investigation into the presence of PIR ships at the RCF Starbase in Yank last week has been concluded, with the following findings apparently clearing the RCF of involvement in sponsoring piracy:

Special Action/RCF Renewal/Pirate Activity
The logs reveal that the pirates were not on the enemy list. It can also be determined that the pirate ships attempted to make deliveries, but these deliveries failed due to lack of security clearance.
The records also clearly show that the ships were boarded by the starbase and during the process the ships were destroyed.
From the debris, there is a reasonable suspicion that the ships were former Pirate Large/Wolfpack members.
The carelessness of the events would indicate that this was a rather poorly executed fit-up job - not to put too fine a point on it.

Halo News

A pirate strike force is attempting to blockade the Agripeta wormhole against Imperial freighters. A squadron of fifteen pirate heavy cruisers, believed to be of Krell manufacture, but sold on to a third party, intercepted an unknown number of IMP ships, resulting in an unknown number of casualties before IMP warships turned up to see off the pirates.

Halo News

From the RCF News Wire.

A major IMP forced attacked a RCF Starbase in the Hittite system. The IMP force is put at over 46000 Troops and over 1700 tanks supported by a smaller scout force.

The force was seen as it rushed towards the base but the base commander pulled the defenders back to bring the IMP force into the Starbase, which the IMPs were happy to do. Once inside the base the charge ran into a wall and major fire fights broke out for control of the base.

After the first day of the battle IMP losses are put at over 15000 men and around 1000 tanks

RCF losses are about 2500 men and less than 100 tanks but small amounts of damage to the base

The second IMP force was also wiped out in the fighting

Transmission

A mysterious transmission has been picked up across several systems including Yank. The message appears to have originated from Dewiek command and control centers:

.. Sub-Space Transmission Packets IO-4789A...
.. Timestamp: Scrambled ...
.. Source: Unknown ...

"Incoming transmission from deep space monitoring pack E5 Void"
"Acknowledged, Channeller Gordo. This is Pack Lord Dolhin of Home Command ready to receive your report."
"<crackle>... This is Science Pack Leader Indigo onboard the Void. My lord we have detected an energy spike within the binary system...<crackle>"
"Point of origin? Originating from primary monitor objective creche site?"
"<crackle>... Negative, my lord. The dwarf star's energy signatures remain stable. Imperial positions have not issued emergency signal...<crackle>"
"Incoming data packets from Elder MaiChiKwai, sir."
"Thank you, Gordo. Indigo, have you determined point of origin?"
"<crackle>...Negative, my lord. ISR signal interference minimal but EM banding suggests its located near the primary star...<crackle>"
"It seems the Elders are monitoring this transmission. Forwarding High-Sec data packet."
"<crackle>....<crackle>"
"Channeller, open a link to Elder Darkmane, priority channel Alpha."
"As you command, my lord."
"<crackle>...Data packets received. This is interesting. Why was my pack not informed of this anomaly?..<crackle>"
"Watch your tongue, Science Pack Leader Indigo. The Elders do not have to explain themselves to you or to me."
"<crackle>...My apologies Lord. What are our orders?...<crackle>"
"Proceed to the navpoint, Indigo. The Wolf Packs will join you momentarily."
"<crackle>..Acknowledging orders, my lord. By the Wolf Mother we shall not fail you...<crackle>"
"Very good, Indigo, Home Command out. Channeller, what is the status of that link with Elder Darkmane?"
"Unable to establish a full packet connection, sir. The Elder's vessel has passed through the singularity."
"By the Wolf Mother, damn it. We shall have to fall back on standing orders. Execute Primary Home Defense matrix."
"Yes, my lord. Are we expecting another Meklan invasion, sir?"
"Perhaps. Of a sort."

TRANSMISSION TERMINATED.

Moaning At The Editor

The GTT have requested the following clarification to a story reported on last week:

"As the SSS editors would know if they read anything other than their own paper, the first report of PIR positions at Lunk, in the Yank system, came from the GTT. While the DTR apparently also participated, the GTT platform there was also involved. Our platform destroyed a PIR ship, then the next day the PIR GP."

The Editor would like to point out that the battle report he saw first was the one provided by the DTR, which provided the DTRs perspective on the engagement, and that the involvement of the GTT platform was not immediately apparent from the combat logs seen by our reporters. We are however quite happy to publish this clarification, and post notice of the GTTs involvement in the destruction of the pirate positions.

The Dream Of Kanji

..a dream of sentients, human, mohache, felini, flagritzi, dewiek, falconian, krell, hive, wimble, aquaphid, naplian all living in peace on a garden world. Then the flames come.

The evil face sits in the flames, it twists, my mind fills with despair as it shows me things, terrible things, wonderful things...

..things of the past, things of the present, some things yet to be...

It shows me Norozov crawling at my feet like a worm, it twists...

It shows me a lonely outpost lit by nuclear fire, I hear it's thought, "A test", it thinks in my mind before it twists again...

Fleetingly and in quick succession, I see;
Hive falling like stars...
Thomson escaping...
Darkman begging for his life before I kill him...
The Dark Star Queen poisoned and lifeless, her hive filled with pestilence...
Githyanki and Bost as my thralls, enslaved, their wills and minds broken..
Meklan marching...
The hide of the Dewiek bitch Adoquina nailed to my wall...
Jackson and Krieger murdering the human Emperor....

With another twist I see wimbles, wimbles on spits being roasted alive, screams and manic laughter fill the air around the flames as babes are drowned in the blood of their parents...

Then the dark silence of space, dimly I see them, ships, small, sleek and fast, they are mine and they are hunters...

With a final twist...

I sit alone smoking on a hill side, only this is not me, it is a Mohache, seemingly a simple shepherd tending his flock, the soil beneath it's feet is that of a Mohache homeworld, secret and hidden. It inhales, trepidation fills its heart and fear fills the mind of this simple being. I savour that. It thinks over the news that the Nookta plans to make the home systems public believing the IMP will protect the Nation. Exhaling it looks up to the night sky...

..the constellation Praanga fills heavens.

Message From The Editor

Congratulations to the dread renegade Kanji on the birth of his son!

And happy new year to our Israeli friends.

Also, I have had very limited internet time these last couple of weeks, apologies to those of you who are waiting to hear from me. And apologies if I have missed any news stories this week, again, as I say, very limited internet time.

Simon.

The Battle For New Darkfold

Imperial Press Release, from the office of Admiral Lord Simms, Baron Baranov, KSG ISP(Rtd)
210.37.4

"The Imperial 5th (Marine) Corps, under command of Lt Gen "Iron Mike" O'Neale, continues its relentless attack on the terrorist stronghold of New Darkfold in Hittite, Halo. After initial setbacks in securing the DZ the planned re-enforcements have arrived and the enemy defenders, in spite of putting up an unexpectedly stiff resistance, are now being forced back deeper into their Starbase and becoming less effective as their military hardware is destroyed.

The objective of the attack, depriving the terrorists of their main support base in the Halo periphery, looks to be in sight."

With the IMP launching a massive ground assault against the main RCF base in the Halo periphery, IGN reporters stationed amongst the RCF have been able to observe the battle first hand, and they have all indicated that it is an exceptionally bloody affair, with both sides channelling in re-inforcements to the meat-grinder.

Reliable reports indicate that over 30,000 Imperial troops, virtually the entire IMP 5th (Marine) Corp has been wiped out, with the IMP having to commit their reserves - another 1000 tanks, 3500 Marines and 2200 Solders, being forced into the hell that RCF base has become.

However despite the RCF being largely unable to compete with the IMP in sheer manpower terms, it is understood the battle remains on a knife-edge, with the result still likely to go either way. Though we understand that further elements from the IMP 2nd Armoured Corp are en-route to finish the battle.

War

The peaceful idyllic days of the Krell homeworld Inversion have been shattered once again as the might of the Imperial-bloc has moved against these largely harmless and backwards rodent people.

A massive and overwhelming GTT and IMP strike-force has commenced engaging multiple Krell targets, suffering few losses as the Krell are more or less entirely incapable of defending themselves. And indeed the Krell seem unwilling to shoot back, as they continue to profess their status as helpless victims of Imperial-bloc aggression.

Bafflingly the GTT have posted that the Krell started the war, when GTT ships turned up in orbit and started firing. Which is one of the more unique versions of 'you started it' we've ever heard at the IGN Newsroom, rather like the Japanese turning to the US after Pearl Harbour and going 'Well you guys started it!'

It is understood the war of extermination is because the Krell refused to reveal who they had sold some warships that turned Pirate to, and the IMP-bloc wanted to know who the buyer was.

The IMP and GTT for their part are insistent that the Krell themselves were attacking under cover of PIR flags, something that the Krell deny. But without any hard evidence, the IMP-Bloc seem happy to blame the Krell for the piracy anyway, and thus have commenced eradicating them and declaring them to be a pirate affiliation.

Krell defenders have been seen pointing and angrily shouting 'Wolfpack! Large! Wolfpack!' at the sky as GTT fighter-bombers scream over-head, in a reference to the high profile events whereby the two biggest pirate affiliations in recent Periphery history were revealed to be the IMP and GTT, displaying a depth of ironic understanding that is usually considered beyond the Krell.

No doubt IMP-Bloc readers will be dismayed at this point by what sounds like an anti-IMP article in this publication, but the Editor would like to point out that no communication has been received from the IMP-bloc putting forward their side of the story.

IND Destroyed

Two IND Couriers have been destroyed by an Imperial Starbase in the Solo system whilst attempting to trade with DTR Retreat.

IND Starcaptains are reminded that Imperial Starbase governors have a shoot-first policy towards INDs, even in 'neutral' systems like Solo and Skord.

Pirate Destroyed

The pirate ship Solitude, a Solo class troop transporter, has been destroyed in the inner reaches of the Skord system by a GTT patrol.

Demons Strike

The pirate ship Lucifers Revenge has struck against a GTT freighter, unleashing the hungry demons who ran rampage through the crew, devouring all who fell before them.

And yet again the Demons demonstrated their complete lack of interest in capturing ships, as once they had sated their hunger, they returned to their ship and left.

Rumours suggest the Demons have also recently devoured a Flagritz crew, which just goes to show they are equal opportunity mad hungry demonic beasts, and don't mind a spot of tentacle on the side, as shown by the recent static-filled transmission that was picked up throughout the Yank system:

"The pulsating, organic curves of Lucifer's Revenge and Azazael throb evilly in the cherenkov radiation spat out by the nearby Yank Express wormhole. With no traffic nearby, the chittering of the Demons echoes through the hulls.

"Flklklfl'lelllldll'

"Cklff''kfflllleeraaa!!"

The two ships lock on to their respective targets, the FLZ XSF-CF HLQ-X-01 3200C-Q (78727) and IMP RVNT Peebles & Twiddle Live Cargo 03 (35692). The chittering increases in volume as the Demons feast once again.

"Om nom nom nom nom!"

Kanji

It is understood a bounty has been placed on the head of the dread Kanji, and that assassins throughout the Peripheries are heading towards Yank…

Sargasso

Stories are reaching our news-room that something odd is going on in the RIP home system of Yank, following the recent assassination of GT Spugman We are however not yet sure what, as news out of the secretive Sargasso system is remarkably hard to come across.

However, it seems possible that party or parties unknown may be in the process of detonating nuclear devices inside the wormholes that lead to the Sargasso system. Now… is it to keep somebody out, or to keep something in?

Culari

Information has come in that the IMPs have dropped the claim to a system that they recently paid a lot of cash for. The system of Culari (181) is apparently no longer under IMP control.

The reasons for the dropping of the claim are as yet unknown.

Recruitment

With pressures on IMP manpower rising, as losses mount in the Stalingrad-esque battles in Halo and on Inversion, it is understood a major recruitment drive is underway for the Imperial ground forces. And that this may have something to do with why the 10,000 troops claiming Culari were recalled. Though the hardy IMP marine corps have regularly shown their capacity to withstand heavy troop losses without loss of operational integrity.

DTR Retreat Market Message

*** WARNING ***

INDependant traders stay clear. The Imperial starbase on this planet will shoot you on sight as you might think of doing something to their big bad starbase at some point in the long distant future.

The jury is still out on whether "thinking of doing something" is enough to warrant needless slaughter by the Imperials or whether "thinking really really hard about thinking of doing something" is actually the reason. A special committee in the Senate will be convened to consider the appropriate level of "thinking of doing something" so future warnings can be more accurate. The Senate committee will be convened as soon as the order for cake has been received from the Wimbles.

This warning message is also intended for all other small defenceless Affiliations.

The Krell are in need of heavy hulls at bulk prices. Mark 1 hulls are fine with us.

Chances are that we will need them supplied in Yank as we probably aren't safe in most other places.

All sources are confidential and as we have proven, we would rather die than give up our customers or sources.

Krell Implicated In Piracy

As Imperial-Bloc forces continue to pound the Krell back into the Stone Age (again), more evidence has come to light that provides justification for IMP-Bloc actions.

The Imperial Viceroy himself was kind enough to allow reporters access to ship logs that provided details of Imperial forces monitoring a small asteroid base in the Adventure system where the Krell Outpost 'Krell Revenge' was located, with multiple Krell and Pirate ships in orbit.

The Krell ships were mostly freighters, which appeared to be carrying supplies and munitions for the Pirate ships, which were primarily Broadsword class Heavy Cruisers.

As evidence of involvement in pirate operations go, this is fairly damning.

The guilty looking ships were then observed for a few days before Imperial warships moved in to destroy them. During which operation it became apparent that pirate vessels were also docked at the Krell base.

Imperial news sources provided the following story:

"Squadron Dog Two of the Imperial Navy tangled with pirates operating near
the Agripetta wormhole. A two battle ensued where Imperial forces with
minor assistance from other non-aligned affilations moved to crush these
pirates. It is said that ships entering and exiting the Agripeta wormhole
need to move at half speed to avoid all the debris caused by the destruction
of at least 12 pirate warships. Emergency beacons from lifesuits are still
calling for pick-up even as this story goes to print. Commodore Irving,
commander of Dog Two working in information from "sources" moved to pursue
the rag tag pirate force that managed to escape the mangling of two days
fighting. Irving, led to Adventure system, quickly moved into a blockade
position of an asteroid at Alpha 14. After stealth scouts confirmed the
presence of wounded pirate ships as well as fresh reserves and Krell
warships, Dog Two moved into action. Augmented by elements of the Rail
Mortar squadron and ships of the Ravenstone Colonial Fleet a nasty orbital
battle ensued over a Krell outpost. Previously damaged pirate ships were
seen in orbit as well as docked at the Krell outpost! Cookie jar, meet
hand!

More to follow as this battle is continuing....reporting from Imperial
flagship Valdor, Embedded reporter Suzy Woo, Capellan Periphery Times.

With this evidence now presented to the Peripheries, it has hard to see what the Krell response might be, though if they release a press release, we will be sure to carry it in next weeks edition. Though it seems likely that they may well claim these PIR forces weren't really classic pirates, and were more Black Ops ships, designed to allow them to fight the IMP without triggering massive retaliation against their homeworld of Inversion.

The Krell warlord Skaven has meanwhile declared his intent to keep fighting, 'We will fight the combined forces of the IMPs, GTT and FET basically alone. Obviously, we will ultimately lose our Homeworld bases and the rest of the cry babies can weep about what should be.... and is not. They will sit on piles of stuff that I would use more effectively than they could dream of....'

Krell Banned From DTR Space

With the evidence presented by the IMP regarding Krell involvement in piracy, our news-room understands that a motion is underway on the floor of the Detinus Senate to ban the Krell from DTR space for acts of piracy.

However as with most motions that make it in front of the DTR Senate, such a ban would be largely meaningless, as the Krell very rarely visit DTR space anyway.

Strange System Claim

Our reporters have learnt that a secretive restricted system is on the verge of being claimed by the DTR, FET and MOH - an unlikely trio of affiliations if ever we heard it.

Halo News Update

More details have reached our news-room regarding the recent IMP-Bloc military operations in Halo against the OPS that occurred some months ago.

IMP-Bloc tacticians apparently successfully detected the dates on which the leader of the HBO left on their holidays, and the Halo Periphery was left without any sort of policing force for two weeks, at which point they moved in a fleet of over 200 warships to commence pounding the OPS Starbase, whilst parking relief squadrons in all neighbouring orbital quadrants to stop any OPS relief forces from getting in or out.

Reportedly they continued pounding for the full two weeks, until the day the Halo Executioner Fleet commander returned from his holidays, at which point the HEF moved in and destroyed perhaps as many as 50 IMP vessels, before the rest scattered.

IMP-Bloc Launch Bukkake News Service

The Imperial-bloc news agencies have launched a direct competitor to the SSS, the GTT, sorry, GGG, which can be found here:

greatgalacticgazette.blogspot.com/

A brief search of the galactic internet has provided us here at the SSS/IGN newsroom with the amusing information that 'GGG' also stands for German Goo Girls, a brand of old-Earth German pornography.

Honestly we would have expected this of the Rip News Network.

HLQ Hit Back

The press office of the Baron LiQuan has released the following statement:

"Today a Hlq Gunship Class Heavy Cruiser named Barons Reach hit a DEN O/P in the Noctollis (61) system. The outpost was damaged. The Ships captain avoided civilian deaths which he is to be commended for.

This clearly shows the Wolf mother, she and her kind are not safe from the baron reach. The Imperials are also reminded according to the peace accord they may only defend the DOGs not support.

Looks like they will need all the help they can get.

Demetrius Liquan."

This attack has prompted significant speculation on exactly how the HLQ managed to penetrate the Noctollis system, an area of space where the DEN might have felt justifiably that they were safe from attack.

Yank

Yet more bad news for Independents, as this time the FET have opened fire and destroyed an IND Caravel in the supposedly neutral system of Yank, as the IMP-bloc continue to demonstrate their lack of concern for obeying the laws of various Kastorian organisations.

It is understood the KAS System weapon fired, destroying the guilty FET ship.

In the interests of fairness and balance and to avoid complaints from the IMP-bloc, we should report that the IND was clearly asking for it. Being unarmed and defenceless and all, the sneaky buggers. Clearly up to no good.

RIP Implicated In Piracy!

Strange things are afoot with the RIP, following last weeks news that the wormhole to Sargasso had been sealed.

We have heard reports that fighting has broken out throughout the Sargasso system, with possibly the SMS being involved, though news is very thin on the ground. We have heard further rumours that Meklan forces are involved, and that SMS defenders are being massacred, and the survivors meklanised.

Further, it seems as if RIP holdings in Yank have now been flagged as IND, including the popular den of inquity, Quick Snack.

However, the big news this week is contained in the following statement made by Mona Luvsitt:

"This is a public announcement by Mona Luvsitt of IND Quick Snack in Yank

I have undeniable evidence that the Regular Independent Privateers were engaged in acts of slavery and of the promotion of slavery within the Yank system.

I believe, but cannot yet prove, that the Regular Independent Privateers were actively capturing natives of the moon Cheetah and enslaving them.

I call upon all upstanding citizens, organisations and affiliations to stand with me and denounce these acts.

I call upon all parties who wish to act against slavers to join me in an investigation.

Interested parties should register their intent to send an investigating party by replying positively to this message.

The initial investigation will commence within the Medical Centre at Quick Snack where the ex-slaves are recovering.

Thank you.

Mona Luvsitt.
IND Quick Snack"

This surely now signifies a significant break between what was the RIP holdings in the peripheries, and those that are now cut-off in Sargasso… but the question remains - just what is happening in the Sargasso system?

GTT-Goo-Boys Go Pirate

Unusual developments in the Storm system this week, as GTT London, the main GTT Starbase on the planet Inversion, suddenly declared itself to be a Pirate installation.

Needless to say, chaos erupted, with a confused GTT firebase on the world opening up against Pirate London inflicting what can only be described as catastrophic damage:

PIRATE London (2012) - Starbase
Scints: 59.4
Targeted by KRL Inversion Outpost 2 (30082) - 78 [80] Damage
Targeted by KRL Carthage (74344) - 82103 [89720] Damage
Targeted by GTT Londonette (51764) - 489031 [522580] Damage
Attacking KRL Inversion Outpost 5 (13040) - 20234 [20970] Damage
Attacking KRL Inversion Outpost 4 (34921) - 16857 [17880] Damage

Oddly however the GTT warships in orbit of the world did not open fire against the pirate base, leading to the conclusion that the GTT captains did not have orders to engage pirates. Which is peculiar given the entire operation being run against the IMP-Bloc on Inversion against the Krell is predicated on it being an operation against pirates. Making it particularly Ironic indeed that the GTT base declared itself a pirate.

Speculation is mounting as to how this might have happened, with GTT sources stating that London's central computer core had been penetrated and the IFF transponder for the base reprogrammed in an act of spectacularly clever espionage.

We have also heard reports that London's central computer core was guarded by one security guard called Mike who has previously been diagnosed with chronic narcolepsy.

There is no clear indication of who might have been responsible for this act of sabotage, given the state of Krell espionage operations, it seems unlikely that those plucky suicidal lunatics would have the patience to operate anything more complicated than a big red button. However, one suspicious event occurred the day before London turned pirate, when the IMP blockade fleet in orbit mysteriously left, the timing of which is raising more than a few eyebrows.

It is understood attempts are underway to reflag Pirate London, before any further embarrassment results. Although our reporters have learnt that the reflagging was the latest in a series of sabotage attempts at London, which saw the base lower its Starbase shields just before Krell artillery opened up, along with a significant number of bombs being detonated in and around key parts of London's industrial complexes that have resulted in the loss of upwards of 16 blueprints. All of which casts doubt on whether or not the GTT will be able to regain control of their base any time soon.

Massacre On Inversion

The IMP-bloc assault against everybody's favourite lemmings, the Krell, has apparently run into more difficulties this week, as if their main base of operations being reflagged pirate wasn't enough.

Reports are sketchy, but it seems as if an entire Imperial Division has been slaughtered whilst attempting to attack stronger than expected Krell defensive positions.

An IMP-bloc spokesman denied heavy losses, saying only one or two men had been killed, but Inter-Galactic-News reporters stationed amongst the Krell have observed the destruction of what had been an Imperial assault force of more than 70,000 mus in size.

The exact loss of life is hard to calculate however, but our reporters have sent images of hundreds of wrecked tanks and thousands of corpses. There has been little celebration from the Krell troops hunkered down grimly in their trenches and blockhouses however, as they look to the skies knowing that surely more IMP-Bloc troops will be coming for them.

Storm

The Storm system is now claimed by Pirate London on behalf of the IMPerial Services, arguably the first time in Periphery history that a pirate base has held a system claim.

When contacted for a comment, Emperor Lysander was unavailable.

Acropolis

Falconian Press Release.

On Star date 38.2 a force of 21 FET warships was detected by a 200 hull policing platform in Acropolis D9. The ships were assumed to be lost and assistance offered when they opened fire on the platform. The platform was almost completely destroyed and only started to return fire in round 2. The following day while FCN personell were expecting apologies for the tragic mistake, a second similar platform was destroyed in the D6 quad. When the head of the FET was contacted this was the result

An explanation of the attack on our platforms in Acropolis is required. Why was there a warfleet in the area? Why did it have FCN on the enemy list?
Consul Armand

Greetings Consul.

Just business.

My subsidary group Norozov Holdings were paid by a client to cause some damage to FCN assets in Acropolis.

Zuvoro Norozov.

FET CEO

The FCN is grateful for the messages of support and offers of assistance over this matter. We have initiated defensive measures and await the FETs response to this unpopular and inexplicable act of the FET CEO. It is understood that recent traumas may have effected his judgement however the FCN expects the FET to deal with this issue and offer recompense. If not we will be forced to take measures ourselves.
Consul Armand

WAR!

Following the mercenary operation launched by the FET against the FCN, we have learnt that a declaration of war has been issued by the FCN against the FET.

The Detinus Republic reacted surprisingly quickly by dispatching several squadrons of the DTR Stellar Armada to support and defend the Falconian Republic, stating that Acropolis is of important geopolitical concern to them, bordering as it does on DTR space, and that the DTR cannot allow chaos and instability to overtake the system.

The FET actions against the FCN have drawn further criticism from several directions, including surprisingly the GTT and IMP Githyanki - representatives of the FETs two closest allies, which signals pretty strongly that the FET are on their own in this one.

We also understand that tension has erupted in the FET boardroom, with other FET directors concerned about the possibility of being embroiled in a war in which their IMP-Bloc allies might not support them.

Sargasso

The SMS have responded to our request for clarification on what might be happening in the Sargasso system, with the following communication:

Mr Editor,

Not as well phrased as I would have liked but :-

On 210.37.4 it appears that the RIP unilaterally ceased the long standing
alliance with the SMS. This is reported by the EEM but as there was no
reason to suspect a change, the settings were not checked on a regular
basis.

It came as some surprise therefore when on 210.37.5 the RIP launched a
massive attack against the small SMS Starbase in Sargasso. With widespread
reports of the Sargasso wormhole having been blocked now circulating, the
SMS were unable to provide support to the base and it was therefore not
unexpected that it fell to the RIP on 210.38.4 and that the remaining ground
party was subsequently destroyed.

The assault was even more surprising given that the SMS had offered the RIP
the opportunity to buy the Starbase only a few weeks earlier until
negotiations were interrupted by the untimely (or convenient) death of Mr
Spugman.

The starbase in Sargasso represented a form of surety to ensure that the RIP
maintained their generally peacable nature following their rejection, some
years ago, of Piracy as a way of life.
That they have taken the above action suggests, to the SMS at least, that
the RIP are intending to revert to piracy and therefore, as far as the SMS
are concerned, RIP = PIR to all intents and purposes.

Best regards,

Mikhail Morgan, SMS

This communication surely explains why the RIP bases in the general Peripheries are now flagged as IND. But the question remains, are they still part of the RIP, or not… and who is in command of the RIP now? Has the Pirate King returned from exile?

DTR Emergency Session

Inter-Galactic News reporters have been invited to report live from inside an emergency session of the Detinus Republic Senate.

Following the revelation of the Baron LiQuan being replaced by a Meklan, the DTR has been abuzz with activity, with new security measures brought in to scan everybody who enters the elegant marble Senate building here at New Tate. We understand that all members of the Senate, along with top ranking military officers have been subjected to a series of tests to ensure they have not been replaced by Meklan.

The extent of the measures suggest that the DTR know something about Meklan that is making them particularly nervous. And indeed we can confirm that our reporters were subjected to extremely uncomfortable security checks before we were allowed in here, with our cameraman nearly being arrested by a humourless security official for observing that he wasn't likely to be smuggling a Meklan 'in there'.

Further, we have heard rumours that Michelle 'Ironboots' Diaz herself is at the root of this drive, and has been seen regularly visiting both DTR Fleet Headquarters and the office of the Defence Minister Jacob Nelson, where, we understand, there have been several explosive exchanges.

The Senate is sitting in full session, with hundreds of Senators from dozens of worlds in attendance. The Senate building itself has seen a few recent renovations which jar slightly with its marble elegance - to wit, the large entranceway that has been rudely carved in one wall to allow access for a Hive Queen from the DTR-QNG faction to take her seat at the Senate. Though at this session she is represented by the humans the Hive Queens have selected to represent them, Fiona Storm and Admiral Bridge, resplendent in his military uniform, replete with dozens of medals. A quick word with Fiona Storm confirmed that no Hive Queen has yet elected to take up the offer to attend the Senate, but that they are considering it, as a means of observing first-talon how this human form of collective thought and action functions. Although it may prove difficult as the Hive Queens themselves are usually incapable of being removed from their egg chambers once they have taken up residence at a base, and that the DTR Senate is unlikely to vote in favour of the debating chamber becoming a hive brooding chamber.

There is some brief concern when the arrival of the dazzlingly beautiful Senator Leonore Sylvansight sets off security alarms - something that is quickly waved off with the flourishing of some paperwork that we are unable to make out.

The session is called to order by Speaker of the House Lord Angus Sivar, the ex-defence minister turned Leader Of The House whom, since taking office, has been embroiled in a series of scandals amongst the local DTR press regarding the number of holidays he has been taking at the Detinus taxpayers expense - something that Lord Sivars senior secretary reminds the press is still infinitely cheaper than Michelle Diaz's hardcore shoe habit.

As the buzz of conversation dies down, Speaker Sivar calls upon his Foreign Secretary, Cassius Jerusalem to speak.

Minister Jerusalem takes the podium, as with many senior members of the Detinus Senate, he is from an old patrician family who served in the military, before graduating to public life. Indeed in this highly militarised yet oddly peace and freedom loving society, it is hard to find anybody who hasn't served in the armed forces.

He clears his throat, before continuing in measured sonorous tones, 'Speaker of the House, my fellow Senators. We are gathered here today to debate once more the issue of the Meklan Baron liQuan.'

There is some angry muttering amongst the benches.

'Senators,' Jerusalem continues, 'I share your outrage. For a Noble House of the Confederacy to have fallen under the control of something as vile and dangerous as the Meklan concerns us all. We have heard your calls for action, we have heard your calls for war. But today we are called together as a good friend of ours, Sir John Harlington Hayes, a representative from the Confederate Intelligence Agency, has requested to address the Senate. We take a moment to reflect on our friendship with the Confederacy, and welcome him to our home.'

There is warm applause as Sir Harlington Hayes walks to the podium. He is of middling height and of former athletic build but now turning to flab, beneath thinning hair. He wears the uniform black tee shirt of the Bolg Organisation. 'Honoured Citizens of the Republic,' he begins, 'I bring greetings and will come directly to the point. You have raised ethical questions about the Meklan enhancements to Baron LiQuan, and I ask to speak to you about this.

The reasons behind the enhancements were not political but there are political implications. Not only for the Republic or for the more parochial attitudes of Old Earth, but also for the Imperial Court, where the Baron has interests and influence. Political interests were not consulted as the Baron felt the matter of his personal honour was the issue.

On Earth in ancient times, a duel between Champions in combat was common and would often be enough to settle a war. From the legend of Achilles in antiquity through to Cuchulain of Erin in later times. This may well have been due to the nature of the type of government, with warfare between city states of tribes, and Champions being local heroes and known to their people.'

There are measured murmurings of agreement from the assembled Senate, as this principle of efficiently settling combat is clearly something the DTR approves of.

Harlington continues, 'When government progressed up to the level of the nation state, the nature of challenges began to change as well. For if any challenge was to be made at all, it would be between the Generals themselves. As honour was not the issue, the result was in fact seldom honoured and challenges were seen as a sign of weakness. More often, the General's troops would not be eager to fight.

So the problem with the nature of the challenge that the Dewiek offered was that as they had nominated a Champion, the Baron ought to have met this with his own Champion. But as the Baron saw things, he saw his measure of personal bravery as being above that of the Dewiek Packleader.

Politics is not always a mature affair and it can become vicious. Party politics may need a consensus, but dynastic politics is not representative and is a many-headed beast. The Baron has a legitimate successor in his son Demitrius, and the little known in public about this gentleman is his marked antipathy towards the Imperial bloc. Should the coming medical procedure prove the Baron technically can be described as a Meklan or not, things are going to change.

I do not say that we are standing on the faultline of a new politics, and that Houses will fall. But we always stand on shifting sands, and in Erin there is a saying which goes "Never make a face when the wind is changing, or you will be left with it." I do not know exactly what this means, but I think it has something to do with power.

Thank you for your time.'

With this, Sir Harlington takes leave, as questions are asked confirming the upcoming testing of the Baron by the Confederacy science officers, and debate erupts as to whether or not the DTR should dispatch observers... and how well armed those observers should be... Though the general concensus appears to be that the DTR is prepared to trust their friends and allies in the Confederacy to determine the truth of the matter of the Meklan Baron.

Correction

Imperial sources have asked us to publish a correction to a story that ran last week regarding the IMP operation against the OPS in Halo:

'To the editor of SSS,

This news article is excellent but you need to publish it again.

The IMP and allies only sent no more than 60 warships to attack the COH (not the OPS).

We lost only 4 warships to the HEF.

And it was a lucky coincidence when we found that the HEF Commander was going on holidays on the same date we planned to launch the attack. I said to the Viceroy that it would seem that we were tacking advantage, but it was too late to cancel the attacks.'

It should be noted that no hard evidence has been seen by The Editor to support either perspective on this battle, so where the truth lies is anybodies guess.

Solo claim swings back and forth

The situation in Solo appears to be getting even more heated. First the NHS dropped 600,000 troops to contest the system and then the DTR answered with enough troops of their own to trump the NHS claim. The NHS found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim up to 750,000 and once again the DTR answered, bringing Solo back under DTR control. Now the NHS have had a look down the back of the sofa and found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim to a massive 900,000 trained troops. We wait to see if the DTR have an answer to this. We can only guess where all these troops are coming from, but what is clear is that the established affiliations clearly have far larger armies than many thought.

NHS attempt to claim Solo away from DTR

In a shock move the NHS have contested the Solo claim with a huge garrison of 600,000 trained troops. In a move that nobody saw coming, especially as it was unknown the NHS had such a large force of troops to draw upon, the NHS seem to be provoking a response from the DTR. Currently there has been no word from the DTR in how they are going to deal with this claim jumping, although rumours are that they are pretending the Solo claim doesn't really matter to them and so action is unlikely. However this may be a smokescreen and we may yet see the DTR's powerful fleet cause havoc in the system of Solo, which has for a long time been an important junction and fought over by many different factions.

DNA Chairman TonTon resigns

The following communication has been leaked from the DNA to the GTT's PD.

Greetings CEO Fox.
It regrets me to have to inform to you that the DNA nation state will be renouncing its claim on Aladdin system following a ceremony planet side, shortly.
However, it gives me great pleasure to have to inform you that these ceremonies are being planned by Vladimir Tavikovitch, the South Road Traffic Coordinator. He is also responsible for all DNA and .ore. assets in the Outer Naplian (Capellan) periphery so if there are any further issues, please take it up with him.
For any and all other matters, please forward your request directly to the DNA directorate services at NexusID: DNA people.
The Foreign Ministry objects one last time to your illegal claim jump of Aladdin, but we realise it is time to de-escalate.
Normally i would sign off with Naambta, but doing so would be hypocritical. Let me say good riddance instead.
I hereby resign in protest!

Chairman TonTon,
Foreign Minister, DNA
cc: Directorate Services personnel coordinator - !urgent resignation!

DTR threaten WMB with fines for multiple breaches of DTR Law

Lady Sylvansight of the DTR has issued a fine of 1,000,000 stellars to the Wimbles for multiple breaches of DTR Penal and Territorial Law. This seems a very brave move of the DTR to risk upsetting the huge and warlike WMB when they also have the rival NHS Solo system claim to deal with. No word has been recieved yet that the Wimbles are going to pay, but if the formidable WMB warfleet is seen heading for the DTR home systems we will know what their thought are on the matter. The DTR and WMB fleets going head to head would be a sight to behold.

DNA and GTT clash over Aladdin system claim while Pirates look on.

The GTT have this week launched an attack on the DNA outpost in Aladdin, in what appears to be little more than a turkey shoot. Around 100,000 GTT Naplian Startroopers attacked the DNA position to remove the rival system claim. Reports indicate the DNA garrison were taken by surprise and lost control of the base in the first few hours of the fighting. The base has since been reflagged from [Free Naplian Capital] Peaceful Protest to [Loyal Naplian Capital] DNA claim Ended so it's fair to say there was a clear message being sent by the GTT. We have been waiting for the DNA leadership to comment but so far they have been unusually silent. No doubt when they have crawled out from under their desks they will have something to say on the matter.

While this attack was going on several pirate ships were also seen in Aladdin, according to the GTT in what may be true or may be a diversion, with reports of a pirate GP and scout being destroyed while a 150HH pirate warship slipped away and escaped from incoming anti-pirate patrols.

Secret meeting of the EEM

A recent communication intercepted by one of our top reporters today made us aware of a meeting of the EEM. This is underway in a top secret location called Black Pool, which sounds suspiciously like the lair of a pirate band. After pulling in many favours, we were able to identify some of the attending members. On the bases that they won't be named we were able to find out some slight information of the subjects to be discussed at the meeting and one thing is for certain, there could be huge impacts to the lives of everybody living in the galaxy. Details to follow. When the shadowy figures of the EEM come together with the top political players in a pirate base the possibilities are endless!

You are never more than 6 systems from a RAT ðŸ€

A new saying has arisen in the bars and spaceport of starbases throughout the many peripheries; you are never more than 6 systems from a RAT.

It is understood that this saying originated in Yank and spread by trade vessels to peripheries far and wide. Many starbases have heightened their security and added additional sensors and locks to various entry points including foul and grey water outfalls. Beer and drug stocks are undergoing increased proofing to avoid the critters gaining entry and consuming the stockpiles.

Will this present as a new plague of proportions never before seen or is this some simple urban myth being spread for the amusement of some mischievous entity? Who knows, but to be certain... check the shadows.

This year we will again be returning to the Briardene Hotel. They were welcoming, the bar didn't run out of beer pre-covid and there was room for quiet chats. Along with Wetherspoons there is the Victoria just down the road (Sam Smiths - last time beer was around 2 shillings per pint and a full round was less than £10).

Mostly drinking beer and talking toot though we have a good few things on the agenda.

Bookings are done directly with the hotel. Book by phone and say that you are with KJC Games

Dog days are over

With the fall of the DEN and the implosion of their home territory as the AFT, DTR and GTT moved in, it was unlikely the Dewiek would rise again. The DWP gave the species a little hope with the Dewiek Pocket Periphery kept under lock and key. But news has reached us of the AFT's penetration of this private area of space that's been locked down. With a base and claim in one of the three visible systems it seems that the end of the Dewiek is near. A once noble and aggressive race, determined to make an impact on the galaxy is now little more than a species that lives under the command of others. A sad end to a once powerful species that used to control a significant part of known space.

Pirate activity continues

Yet more reports of pirate activity have been received, one from the WMB, losing a freighter in Solo and another from the FET who reported they had engaged and hit the attacking pirate ship with several weapons before it managed to make off with it's prize. Hopefully the pirate ship took significant damage and will now be out of action for some time. The Corewards periphery seems to have been plagued with pirates recently and many travellers would welcome a break from attacks.

MEK incursion into Corewards

The FET and GTT have mounted a joint venture into Nog-Kesri to tackle a MEK force. It isn't known where they have come from, with the only other MEK ships seen so far being located in the Orion Spur. The lack of a known link between where they have appeared in Corewards and the Orion Spur has caused some concern among planetary populations as who knows where they could turn up next! Fortunately the combined FET/GTT task force dealt the MEK a heavy blow and the threat has been eradicated. But we all know this is unlikely to be the last we hear of the MEK in Corwards and we would encourage ship captains to keep a keen eye on thier sensor screens when travelling near Nog-Kesri.

    Aladdin faces ongoing DNA/GTT tension

The tensions between the DNA and GTT in the Coptuv system recently spilled over into the DNA system of Aladdin. A significant party of GTT ground troops has reinforced one of their bases in the system and claimed it, forcing the system claim into turmoil as the DNA finds itself under threat of losing the system. With the DNA chairman asking for help, several affiliations have been seen sending ships to evacuate any in the local population that want to escape the GTT. But so far not a shot has been fired and despite the AFT, FEL and DTR assistance no reisistance to the claim jump has been encountered so far. It remains to be seen if the DNA and it's friends will scatter before this hostile take over or put in a last minute counter claim to thwart GTT intentions.

    Increasing pirate activity

Recent reports indicate a new surge in pirate attacks with the AFT and GTT reporting ships lost. Knowing how some don't like to advertise losses we wouldn't be surprised if this is the tip of the iceberg. Reports passed to us show the ship PIR Scavenger running ID 43174 and another ship of the same name running ID 68668 have both been in action with successful boarding attempts. It's unknown whether these are seperate ships or the same ship reregistered, but our information suggests that it would be hard for these pirates to cover the space where these attacks happened with just one ship. One thing is for sure, be on your guard as open space is not as safe as it once was.

GCE ships loitering in deep space

After the fall of the GCE and a lot of their assets being shared or purchased it was thought that the affiliation was no more. Yet deep space scans indicate that there is still a significant number of GCE warships holding station in deep space between Coptuv and Yank on the transport route into the Corwards Arm. Nobody knows what these ships are up to and why they are still flagged GCE, but our best guess is that are captains either awaiting new orders or owners after the fall of the GCE command structure.

    Tension in the Corewards Arm

With the DNA obtaining several ex-GCE bases in the Coreward Arm it has found itself in the middle of an asset grab of serious proportions and aggression. Our reporters witnessed several GTT troop carriers heading for the Corewards system as the DNA published information suggesting they were accidental owners of the system and that the assets were to be moved on. As the GTT ships started to arrive the bases were quickly passed to the CIA, thus thwarting the GTT intentions as they were hardly likely to start dropping troops on their allies bases. This shrew move by the DNA seems to have calmed matters in the Coreward arm temporarily, although the shift in relations between the GTT and DNA has taken a negative turn. When asked what their next move might be the GTT refused to comment.

    GCE collapse

The GCE are no more, save for some scattered light freighters. The affiliation which enjoyed a sharp rise and profiltable relations with many has ceased trading. Rumors point to the GTT buying up GCE assets before stripping the rival corporation of anything of value. Although our reporters at the SSS have been quick to point out that any GCE assets not in GTT systems have been taken over by both the DNA and FET. So it seems many different affiliations were able to profit from this development including a new group called the HSH who appear to have taken over the GCE war fleet. No doubt many in the peripheries will be watching with interest where these ships are used, who the HSH are and how they were able to get thier hands on so many warships so quickly.

    Secudus trials

In the Cluster Secudus has continued his trials, claiming to root out terrorists working against the Empire. With tends of thousands of beings being sent to the camps or worse. There is no sign of these actions stopping as the NHS clamp down on the locals and bring them under the harsh control of the Empire.

    Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
