FET Demand
There has been a surprise demand levelled by the FET this week against the Children Of Hexos for the return of the Starbase Ves Ghorman. The FET CEO released the following statement:

From:Zuvoro Norozov FET CEO
To:Emperor Hexos
Subject:Request concerning the legal ownership of Ves Ghorman.

Greetings.
It is my sad duty to inform you that you are currently illegally in possession of a FET facility, namely the base you call Ves Ghorman(previously known as FET Yokosuka).Below you will find extracts from historical documents concerning the capture and subsequent illegal sale of said base.
Although 10 years have passed the base is legally FET property and we formally request that you return it to us forthwith.
The FET Board of Directors realise that the current COH leadership probably has no knowledge of the history of this base and do not hold you personally responsible for the actions of your predecessors. In light of that FET are willing to let you remove all the Principles,Techniques,Blueprints and Ground Troops that may be located at the base, if you return Yokosuka to us.
But, if you decide not to return it to it’s rightful owners FET will have to take a more direct approach to recover our property. This would start with a blockade of the planet.
With Respect.
Zuvoro Norozov
FET CEO

A number of eyebrows have been raised around the Peripheries regarding this demand, particularly given the 10 years that have passed since the Starbase was taken by the CIA and sold on, which has raised some interesting possibilities about other starbases whose return might next be demanded.
The COH agreed to return the base, and it is understood the arrangement was made as amicably as one could imagine possible. The FET have given the COH a generous amount of time to evacuate their technology and holdings from the base before its return.

FLZ Nuclear Weapons Story Develops
The story of the FLZ vessel that deployed nuclear missiles and had slaves on-board has taken a very interesting twist this week, as the FLZ authorities have spoken to our reporters, and issued the following statement:

”The FLZ is proud to announce that the Consortium warship we captured intact as detailed by the Felini, and subject to their botched FEL boarding attempt, is now safe and very well. The now FLZ warship reacted to the boarding action with extreme prejudice, dispatching the designated FEL boarder, a 150 hull ship without suffering any damage or casualties. The FLZ warship then left the area and engaged many chasing FEL ships at long range successfully. We are currently downloading activities of this ships log and interrogating the Felini that remain after our seizure of this CONSORTIUM Class ship. The smear campaign launched by the Felini to discredit our capture is frankly pathetic."
It will no doubt be impossible to tell which side is telling the truth in the murky world of the FLZ/FEL conflict, but with the Flagritz now claiming that the nuclear armed ship was originally a Felini vessel, and consistent with several previously observed Consortium ship designs, there is now a question mark hanging over the whole affair.

Damp
The AFT outpost captured by pirates last week has seen a lot of action, with a strong AFT and SMS strike fleet dropping into orbit to bombard both the pirates at the outpost, and those still on the ground.
It is understood the orbital bombardment took the pirates completely by surprise, and a large number of pirate troops and tanks were annihilated in the open, with the defenders at the outpost also taking a pounding as over half the outpost was reduced to rubble.
An AFT assault force then moved in on the ground to successfully recapture the outpost, taking minimal casualties, after only one or two false starts.
Minimal that is until a GTT strike fleet arrived unannounced in orbit and opened fire on the recently recaptured outpost, which was unfortunately still flying pirate flags, resulting in moderate loss of life amongst the victorious AFT attackers.

Pirate Large
Everybody’s favourite mass murdering psychopath has been rather quiet lately, but Pirate Large has issued the following transmission regarding a success of a couple of weeks ago that had not previously been brought to light:

Ahhharrgghhh me hearties…………..

Pirate Destroyed
The Imperial services have destroyed the pirate ship Ghost of Tychoon in orbit of Baruch.

Mos Eisley
Reports are reaching our newsroom of a navigational error caused by there being two facilities in the Peripheries named Mos Eisley. The EEM have yet to update their navigational records, resulting in a tailback in several systems.
Travellers are advised to check their maps before departure.

Pirate Destroyed
The pirate ship Eyes Of Large, another small scout vessel, has been destroyed by an Imperial trip-wire platform in the Starling system.

Skirmish in Yank
A Falconian warship has accidentally fired on a Flagritz freighter in the Yank system.
The Falconian Government were quick to offer a full apology and to pay reparations for the unfortunate incident – just the latest in a long line of inadvertent battles triggered in the Yank system by various parties over the years.

Pirate Destroyed
DTR Patrol forces have intercepted and destroyed the pirate ship Nose Of Large – yet another small scout/spy vessel – in the Venice system.

IND destroyed
The IND Vessel Eyes Of Calypso has been destroyed whilst attempting to enter a DTR restricted zone.
Yet again all IND vessels are reminded they have to register with the DTR authorities before attempting to transit DTR space, lest they get blasted into atoms.

Wolfpack
The Wolfpack pirates have successfully captured a FCN freighter in the Titan system. Whereupon all manner of weirdness that frankly we here at the IGN newsroom can’t even begin to understand took place.
It was probably all the fault of the CIA though.

Sinister Goings On
The FLZ have been implicated in absolutely nothing at all this week as a suspicious looking FLZ freighter was scanned and found to be carrying nothing more sinister than some wheat. An un-named source has been quoted as saying, “Curse those vile Flagritz for being up to absolutely nothing at all apart from some innocent trading!”

QNG Scientists Discover Selves
In a breakthrough for QNG science, a group of dedicated scientists have announced that they have successfully discovered themselves.
We can only speculate where this sort of daring cutting edge stuff might lead.

Doubt Cast On FET Claim
The FET claim on the COH Starbase Ves Ghorman was cast into serious doubt this week as several sources were able to come forward with information that proved beyond shadow of a doubt that they FET claim was in error, and they did in fact have no valid legal basis on which to demand the return of Ves Ghorman.
The FET director was quick to withdraw his claim, and apologise for having made the mistake, but the Peripheries are asking – did the FET make a genuine mistake, or were they trying to pull a fast one over the newly arrived COH leadership?
Have the FET been taking lessons from the RIP in dodgy dealings?
Only time will tell.

WMB/MOH
Our elite investigative reporters are able to reveal that the dread Wimble/Mohache alliance has done absolutely nothing sinister this week.
Suspicious isn’t it?

DTR Under Attack
Pirates have struck in the Venice system, prompting Michelle Diaz, the one time glorious leader of the DTR, to appear in front of cameras to deliver the following statement. It should be noted that Ms Diaz was wearing a charcoal grey Kartier And Sachs designer outfit, and shoes encrusted with River Diamonds and what appeared to be the beautiful glinting souls of innocent children.
“Last Friday Pirate scum launched 2 attacks on DTR Outposts in the Venice system. Clearly PIRATE Blackpool Weekender 01 (24395) thought that they were going to have a big party but after 2 short rounds the only thing left of the 160 human soldiers were bits of blood and entrails.
PIRATE GROUND PARTY Blackpool Weekender 02 (33619) had a bit more success capturing an outpost consisting of a single Hiport and nothing else since there was nothing there worth arsing over. These twats must be truly sad if they think partying on an airless barren rock is fun. At least DTR guns will relieve the hangover in the morning.
Maybe the pirates should come up with a new motto. How about 'Join the sad wanker crew, party with a rock and die in the morning'. Sounds sad enough to fit a pirates life.”

Wolfpack Demand Headline Billing
Feeling very pleased with themselves this week, the Wolfpack pirates have captured two warships. Both broadsword class heavy cruisers, one from the SMS and the other from the FET. Unfortunately headline billing this week has already been filled, so the Wolfpack are once again relegated to the middle-pages.
It is a worrying development however that warship marine compliments can no longer hold off a determined pirate, but it is understood that in both cases the Wolfpack attacked with almost an entire battalion of troops – enough to see off most warships crews.
The Wolfpack issued the following transmission with more details of one of the actions:
“One of my scouts doing a scan picked up an SMS broadsword in Titan.
No other ships in orbit so the local Wolfpack ship went in.....
Scanned:
SMS SHIP EI-E COLWYN BAY (2976) - {75 Heavy Hulls}
Broadsword Class Heavy Cruiser {Heavy Armour}
Plenty of defensive fire and mkIII missiles.
After taking minor damage the hatch to the Colwyn Bay was blown open and the marines swarmed in.
Boarding Action for the Control of SMS EI-E Colwyn Bay (2976)
Round 1: Battle is 47: 6 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 15.39% control [84.61%]
0.36% chance of losing control
Round 2: Battle is 49: 6 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 17% control [67.62%]
3.4% chance of losing control
Round 3: Battle is 43: 5 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 20.49% control [47.13%]
14.78% chance of losing control

SMS EI-E Colwyn Bay (2976) has fallen to the attackers.
They fought well but the yellow streak showed through in the end.
Another prisoner. Running out of cells now so starting to charge rent.
Yvette Delorean (#1) {SMS Prisoner}
No prisoners released until cell rent paid in full.
Going to use rent money to put up a new officers hotel when they come to visit at the Wolf-Lair.

Thats 2 broadswords in one week thanks to the SMS and FET.
This was HHmkIII. Nice bonus!”

Adamski
The Adamski system has been returned to the IMP in accordance with the terms of the peace treaty between the IMP and the DTR.
The handover was marked by a speech from the DTR foreign Minister Cassius Jerusalem in which he praised the new found era of peace and co-operation, stating how happy he and his government are to work together with the Imperial services.

Pirate Large
The foul and repellant, loathsome stained rugose and squamous pirate Large has been boasting of his victories once again:
“Ahharrgghhh me hearties……………… It be Aye…………… Pirate Large………………..
Me boys be loiterin in the yank system an spotted the FLZ ship X-QNGFLZShipbuilder-38 (12258), now it be an unusual name to say the least, a 100 light huller she be, ready fer takin by thee.
The Blue Tit be sent to take her on, an succeed she did, 50 Hive marines be on board, but me boys did the job an anuuver ship be a taken.
I thought the name be a bit funny as were the cargo, a do it your self outpost setup kit and ship supplies??
5 Basic Module mkII (411)
30 Heavy Organic Hull (88) - 100 mus
5 Industrial Module (400) - 40 mus
5 Military Module mkII (406) - 30 mus
5 Structural Module (420) - 40 mus
5 Transport Module (415) - 40 mus

Anyways suffice to say I manages to get the ship away and jobs a good en.
any ways im sure you will hear more from the Glorious Adventures of the
pirate ship Large(and friends).............aahaaarrgh”

Imperial Trade Statement
“The Imperial Services are pleased to be able to announce the future restoration of the markets at Cape Riva (1166), on booker in the Audrey system. As governor of this facility I am pleased to again open the market on the famous booker steaks, with 40K being added each Friday, which along with a number of other items will shortly go on sale on the public markets. Now comes my dilemma, what to buy or at least offer to buy to make the market a 2 way sales agreement.
So this is where you come in, I had gotten to the letter 'c' in my known item list and largely lost the will to live, in an attempt to create a market that sell's as well as buys I am looking to you help me out with items that you might like to sell, obviously I am interested in anything 0.8+ source value, on which I would think prices of up to x15+ source can be offered. This said I am also willing to look at just about anything else with prices reflecting the best I can obtain from systems within the empire.
Two way markets are hard to find in this age, your help is required to make it viable and economically sound, please contact me with anything you think might be of interest, there is much more profit to be made than selling locally to your own markets.
As always, but on this occasion to a more general audience, I trust this finds you well.”

COH Join Consortium
The following press release has been issued:
Greetings Peripheries!
It is my privilege to announce the COH has been accepted into the Consortium. While many are pondering why we did this let me explain. In the past the COH has been known for evil acts throughout known space. Without a doubt our past history is one which is dark. But since I have taken over the COH as Emperor, I feel that it is in our best interests to observe democracy as our closest allies the FCN have done. I feel that the COH can learn from those affiliations that put people first. We can end slavery throughout the galaxy and bring peace to nations torn with strife. I pledge my support to the Consortium and all that we can offer. We will root out tyrants throughout the galaxy and liberate those peoples who are oppressed. Together we CAN make a difference. So I ask the people throughout the peripheries, will you stand up and fight for freedom or lay down and die at the hands of your enemies!
As a race not being bound by a hive collective our members can chose their destiny and the people have spoken. From this day forward a new dawn has emerged. I would like to thank all those who were and weren't involved in my decision. A toast to a New Beginning! A toast to Freedom! A toast to our new Democracy and friendship with the FCN!
I will be releasing those who have been promoted to the senate within the COH to the news media soon. Our offices are still working this out and will have an update next week.
Emperor Hexos.

Piracy
The Flagritz have issued the following statement regarding recent pirate activity:

“A second attack from the Pirates was similarly crushed this week by the FLZ in the orbit of the stargate.
401 x Human Veteran Soldiers were crushed under foot by FLZ superior technology and Hive eating habits.
WOLFPACK WINS EVERY TIME (8363) ........failed to win this time.
3 hive marines were reported missing with stomach ache, apparently humans don't taste as good as Falconians.
Rumours of a lost freighter in Yank are confirmed although ... the Battle report was not forthcoming...”

Pirates
The AFT outpost that was taken by pirates a few weeks ago and subsequently recaptured, has seen a few unfortunate blue-on-blue friendly fire incidents. Or in other words, it got recaptured and then blown to crap by all manner of over-enthusiastic ship captains.
It is at this point questionable how much of the outpost remains. However, at least all of the attacking pirates were killed, one way or another.

Pirate Destroyed
The pirate scout Ghost Of Adamski has been destroyed by DTR defensive fire in, you guessed it, the Adamski system.

Pirate Victory
A pirate ground force has successfully captured a couple of small Falconian mining outposts in the Storm system.

Pirate Destroyed
The DTR are reporting the destruction of the pirate ship Ghost Of Arachnid, by defensive platforms in orbit of Agelenidea.

Pirate Destroyed
A busy week for the DTR as they chalk up yet another pirate kill, this time the scout ship ghost of Ruin in the, wait, you figure out which system it was destroyed in. Go on. We know you can do it.

Pirate Large
Rumours are circulating that pirate Large may be present in the Starling system, looking for potential targets. All travellers are advised to take care.

COH Origins
The COH (hexamon) were not created by the ARC, nor were they modified, they came from Mnemosyne in the Titan system.
The ARC instructed the TCA to remove the COH (Hexamon) from the planet as the star was dying.
The TCA did this but could not jump out due to the breakdown of the ISR field. So had to go slow boat.
They ended up in the DEN systems 400 years later or so where the 3 D alliance trashed them.
The COH have never had to used queens to produced they had a birthrate in BSE.
They do not have a Hive mind so to speak but have free will.
They can use hive queens to produce eggs, which in BSE times you could create workers/soldiers etc.
Hope this clears a few things up

Warfare Erupts In Flagritz Space
Reports are reaching the newsroom of a major Flagritz offensive carried out against Consortium targets.
The FLZ war-room released the initial following statement:
“Currently there is a limited black out on all information relating to FLZ Naval Victories within the FHP.
The FLZ high command can report that the "Cuss'arge" has started and the enemy are suffering.
SMS and FEL combined fleet forces have been engaged by one squadron of the FLZ Empire. Many of their ships exploded and lie severely damaged.”
Inter-Galactic News reporters embedded with the SMS fleet were able to witness first hand the destruction of a large number of SMS and FEL warships when a fleet of around 60 FLZ battleships entered orbit and opened fire with massed ranks of Missile and Torpedo fire.
12 SMS Ship Of The Line Class 100 HH warships were destroyed, along with three Felini 125 HH Sabretooth Snarl class Capital Ships.
The second day of the battle saw the FLZ vessels apparently attempting to disengage, as most of them had exhausted their ammunition, at which point Consortium reinforcements arrived and were able to start inflicting some damage on the FLZ. Several FCN vessels launched successful boarding attempts, capturing four FLZ ships before the Flagritz strike fleet were able to withdraw in good order having lost four 200 NH carriers and eight 60NH support vessels in total, which cast a slight pall over what was otherwise a significant Flagritz naval victory. Several more heavily damaged SMS and FEL warships were finished off as the FLZ departed the battle.
Early reports indicate that there are many survivors amongst the wrecked ships, and SMS admirals are reporting they hope to recover most of their people. Reports also indicate a surprising amount of salvage has been left behind following this space battle.
There are many stories of individual bravery, but a nod of respect has to go to the SMS captain who managed to hold his ship together despite it having taken something in the region of 80-90% damage.

SMS Bombardment Success
An SMS battlefleet is currently bombarding a large pile of ore. And has been for some weeks now. But they did take a brief break to bombard one of their own ships.
We could explain more, but frankly the story is funnier this way.

Pirates Defeated
The FLZ have released the following report:
”400 x Pirate Human Veteran Soldiers (PIRATE Wolfpack returns (80341)) attempted to board the platform late this week.
They bounced off the platform landing onto the Outpost. They were met by forces loyal to the FLZ Empire.
In one days firefight, 178 Pirate human veterans were exterminated and added to the growing bone pile.
The Hive forces were kept behind the lines to prevent choking hazards, leaving the advance force of new naplians and humans to try their hand.
The enemy managed to find a way through one tank's armour somehow to a cartridge which blew up the tank and a few soldiers nearby. The local FLZ commander has been called in to explain why not all 400 veterans were not exterminated in one day. "Apparently he said many landed on top of our tanks in disorder and we could not shoot them all Sir !"

The FLZ force suffered the loss of:
1 Battle Tank mkII (826)
2 Human Marines (506)
2 Naplian Marines (554)
2 Naplian Soldiers (555)”

With the Wolfpack pirate group continuing to deny involvement, it seems as if somebody is persisting in their impersonation efforts, as they launch yet another unsuccessful strike against the FLZ.

DIE Attack
A new group of pirates, calling themselves the DIE, have launched a number of raids against the Falconian Empire recently. Reports indicate they have successfully captured a couple of mining outposts that were subsequently destroyed by orbital bombardment.

Fireworks Over Capella
The Imperial News Wire has been carrying the following story:
“Recently a battle report was generated over Capella when ground forces in Fort Krieger destroyed a PIRate GP that was hidden inside the hulls of a captured PIRate ship, Wrath of Large. The CAPtured Wrath of Large was docked at Fort Krieger and the PIRate GP was forcibly expelled from inside the ship and refused all orders to drop weapons. Maintainence workers are now spreading sand over the blood stains as that is all that was left.”
Speculation is rife as to why a pirate ground party might have been hiding away inside the ship.

FET Implicated In Piracy
Hot on the heels of their recent embarrassment having attempted to claim a COH Starbase, the FET have found themselves embroiled in another controversial story when the Falconian Empire implicated one of the FET members of involvement in pirate activities.
It seems a FET surveillance vessel has been a regular visitor to a number of locations shortly before they have been attacked by the DIE group of pirates, leading to speculation that the FET ship in question has been passing intel to the pirates.
The FET Director reacted angrily to this allegation, and promptly took the matter public to make his denial, even going so far as to raise the spectre of war – an eventuality that the FCN were quick to deny they were pursuing.

Wolfpack News
The Wolfpack pirates are reporting a new success:
“Wolfpack 005 was cruising through Kasmer and spotted a nice little FET freighter.
The next day it pulls up alongside and several hundred marines charge in.
All the FET crew die immediately, with the exception of John "Big Balls" Astor the FET officer who single-handedly defends the ship for half a day before the weight of numbers overpowers him.

Boarding Action for the Control of FET Beaver03 (72212)
Round 1: Battle is 2400:7 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 24.75% control [75.25%]
1.52% chance of losing control
Round 2: Battle is 480:1 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 24.78% control [50.47%]
12.15% chance of losing control
Round 3: Battle is 480:1 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 24.92% control [25.56%]
41.25% chance of losing control
Round 4: Battle is 480:1 in favour of Attacker
Defender lost 24.88% control [0.68%]
97.98% chance of losing control

FET Beaver03 (72212) has fallen to the attackers.
Incoming Fire from PIRATE Beaver03 (72212)
Round 1: 4 Human Crew - 1 [4] damage, 1 Officer - 0 [10] damage
Round 2: 1 Officer - 0 [10] damage
Round 3: 1 Officer - 0 [10] damage

Having survived the encounter, and as the Wolfpack did not lose a single man during the operation, John "Big Balls" Astor is enroute to the Wolf-Lair with the penthouse of the officer hostage hotel reserved for him. We do admire bravery.
He will be released to the FET should they want him back, as all officers will be for a small charge.”
We here at the IGN newsroom congratulate the Wolfpack for their spelling abilities, if not their pirate activities.

Varitang
Something confusing but important has happened in the Varitang system, but our elite team of crack reporters aren’t quite sure what happened, and why, and how it all wound up in the end.
If somebody involved would like to write up a press release or a summary of the story, we’d be ever so grateful.

CIA Denials
The CIA have denied involvement when a top secret object recently disappeared from a high security GTT facility.
The GTT did not respond kindly when one of our reporters asked if they had looked down the back of the sofa.
In related news, the CIA have made no comment when asked about their latest Sofa Camouflage Tactics.

Piracy
A number of pirate ground parties have been tickling the defences of SMS Pompeii… Surely they do not intend to re-capture the facility?

Pirate Destroyed
A small pirate scout ship, the Eyes Of Large, has been destroyed by the SMS.

GTT Pranged
A GTT freighter en-route to Scuba Station has been shot up by a small DTR deep space platform.
Whilst recuperating from a bout of dreaded lurgy, the DTR Foreign minister Cassius Jerusalem denied that this had anything to do with a change in DTR foreign policy, and was more that the small number of crew onboard the platform had just apparently not received any updated orders since the peace treaty was signed. Leading to questions regarding just how long the DTR keep crewmembers stationed on deep space platforms without any leave or R&R.

Breaking News! Flagritz Atrocities Discovered
The Falconian Empire have just issued the following press release:

Sentients of the Peripheries,
It is with a sad heart that I must break news of a mass grave discovered on an asteroid in the outer reaches of the Acropolis system where our survey team found the evil wrought by the Flagritz upon a large number of Falconian prisoners, who were enslaved, then mutilated before being frozen in the asteroid's icy surface.
Besides illustrating their complete disregard for life and the rules of war, they have shown a complete disregard for Commonwealth system laws in transporting these slaves to Acropolis for their ignoble death.
If this is a message from the Flagritz then it is well heeded: We shall avenge every last Falconian and we will free all those who suffer under the yoke of the Flagritz Empire still.
Today we mourn those already lost and give our dead a proper burial. Tomorrow justice will be served.
Consul Darius Shirazi
Falconian Republic

Quote:
Low Pass Scan/XXXX
The surface of the asteroid appears to be fairly typical ice bound rock except for one small region.
The optical sensors pick out shapes that appear to be humanoid. There are a few thousand of them and they are arrayed over a square kilometre.
They are obviously dead and may have been there some time.

Quote:
Surface Exploration/XXXX/Ice
The region is little more than ice and rock. The former is mainly water though patches of carbon dioxide powder also exist as snow drifts.
The team however pick up an anomaly - they find organic readings just below the surface.
Brushing away the ice crystals at the surface reveals ice graves. This is where the surface ice has been temporarily liquefied with an airlock and a body has been placed into the shallow pool before exposing to vacuum and refreezing. There are quite a lot of these scattered over wide area.

Quote:
Investigation/XXXX/Ice/Bodies
Once of the bodies and surrounding ice is excavated, moved to a bay and allowed to melt.
Soon the team are able to see the corpse of a Falconian. He has been plucked and mutilated.
There are clear signs that he was either a prisoner or a slave - possibly one then the other.
The rictus of fear on his face and position of limbs however indicates that he was alive at the time of being dropped into the pool of water.
Due to the temperature it is unclear how long the person has been present, but the team doubt it could be more than a few years as there are Flagritz brand marks on the body.

This is due to a number of reasons which I will not go into here.
The Baron thinks that controlled contact with a small number of non human civilians will

This is of course not for the normal settle but the adventurous type who through there own actions could change

Season of Goodwill brings WAR
The House LiQuan have declared war against the Association of Free traders over their ongoing disagreements in the Vehrenberg system.
In order to explain why they have taken the step of declaring war, the Baron LiQuan has issued the following statement to the press:
"Vehrenberg and the system of Varitang are under the administration of the Noble house Vehrenberg. This was given by the Emperor and never removed. In the year 201 the GCS took power in a civil war and ousted the Emperor, until he was returned to power in the peace accord.
With ref to the free elections under Imperial law the planet/system are not allowed to cede from the empire. To quote Emperor Lysander "To cede from the Empire under any circumstance is an act of treason"
That was basically the background to the claim. The VSC agreed to the demands and have now formed the HVB.
Has the Emperor/commonwealths representive.
The AFT by the definition of the peace accord are not allowed in the Inner Empire.
We required they hand over the platform in the Varitang wormhole.
They recognise HVB as the Emperors/commonwealth representatives in Varitang. (they have done)
They apply to the council for formal recognition of there status in the Inner Empire.(they have done)
With ref the platform this was not transferred, HLQ agreed to a weeks extension so the issue could be sorted, here are the PM's

Greetings Baron LiQuan,
I apologize for the situation with the Varitang wormhole platform. If you will give me until next week I will attempt to remove the crew and marines and you can board. If that is not acceptable you may board at your convenience.
Cirdan

My reply was
Greeting Cirdan
Under the present conditions thats is acceptable. we will wait a week then board.
However what about the public statement and applying to the council to sort out your
access to the Inner Empire.
On Monday a ship was sent to board the platform as agreed and was destroyed with all hands see battle report

A later public statement by Cirdan said he could not remove the personnel from the platform as he had no ships in range and not sure of authorisation.
So why make the statement he would attempt to remove crew and marines.
Why not communicate the fact to me that the boarding would be resisted so steps could be taken.
Now the aft councillor who could not be contacted suddenly comes on line the day they blow a HLQ ship up and we declare war on them.

HLQ now seeks the removal of the AFT from the Varitang system(either by transfer to me or by force there choice)
HLQ has asked the CNFPD to remove all there rights from Confederate space.
To Sum up the AFT can not be trusted they have blatantly not done what they said they would try to do. The AFT have let the Confederates down before when the failed to intervene when the GTT attacked.
The AFT failed to act when the DTR where attacked in Solo.
We have had enough of the promises and wish nothing more to with them.
Baron LiQuan."

With the AFT clearly in shock that war has been declared so readily over what they describe as an unfortunate accident, it was left to Nurgle from the Falconians to sum up the viewpoint set against that of Baron LiQuan: "You have a very simple problem: Large juicy assets with no reasonable defences.... You didn't DO anything wrong and I doubt you can pull off the stunts it would take to save the AFT. You are a victim and about to become an example of what happens to anyone trusting to morality for their peace. Guns not butter bring peace. I do not condone or like the idea of what is about to happen to you. It is a lesson to everyone else though."
It seems certain now that the HLQ are about to move in strength against the AFT, and with long-standing hostilities still lingering amongst the Confederacy towards the Free Traders, it is possible the conflict could escalate to include the Darkfold. And with the AFT politically isolated, it is difficult to see who might be able to come to their aid.

AFT Offer Their Side Of The Story
Aubrey Firesong of the AFT has contacted the news-room to offer this personal perspective on the Vehrenberg crisis:
"I write to follow up on your request for more clarity regarding issues between the AFT and House LiQuan.

Baron Liquan's headline of "AFT at WAR with HLQ" is incorrect. The AFT has not declared war against anybody, and has no intention of doing so. The HLQ made a series of unreasonable demands at the start of this month regarding AFT attitudes and assets in the Varitang system. Despite this, the AFT complied with all the demands. However, the Master Trader was not able to contact the commander of the wormhole platform to request its handover to the HLQ (OOC: because I have been inactive for a few months, and the platform in question is personally owned by me). On Monday of this week (stardate 208.52.5), without seeking any assurances from the AFT that appropriate orders had been made, received and acted upon, the HLQ sent a ship to attempt to board the platform. The platform commander responded in the same way as any platform commander would to an attempted boarding, resulting in the rapid destruction of the HLQ vessel.
Despite the prompt apology of the local governor on public channels, Baron Liquan chose to declare war on the AFT. The Master Trader has repeatedly made clear the AFT's desire to keep the peace, but the Baron is rebuffing all such advances. Given the nature of his demands, the timeframes he offered and his unwillingness to engage in diplomacy, I can only assume that the Baron's intention all along was to use the incident as cover for an unprovoked attack on the Association of Free Traders.

Markets Crash In Yank
Starbases across Mobile Bay in Yank are reporting that Father Christmas has been a little too generous this year, as a glut of goods has caused the market for off-world goods to almost completely dry up.
Angry Starbase governors are trying to find out who is behind the over-selling, and whether or not it has been done deliberately, though the chances are it was simply somebody who didn't realise there was a weekly maximum limit. Though the Imperial services are already threatening a travel ban on the responsible party.
The Kastorian military Junta themselves are unlikely to care too much. Unless Father Christmas violated their airspace, in which case they'll be looking for somebody to slowly torture to death.
Even now all elf-like creatures throughout Yank are going into hiding just in case.

Mohache Fail to Find Reindeer
A senior Mohache political has this week attempted to send two squadrons of 5 "Okume" class 50 Light Organic Hulled vessels through the sensor-obscuring nebula known as "Feminine Charms" in an unnamed system. This navigational hazard is known for its tricky ways, and the space-time curves and other... distractions can unfortunately cause mishaps.
On this particular occasion, "Feminine Charms" claimed a large harvest. One vessel of the ten made it through the associated asteroid belt, and the two squadron 'lead ships' failed to report in at all - they are currently presumed lost with all hands.

GTT Bring Festive Cheer
The GTT have unleashed a two day barrage of fire against a DTR outpost involving ground based silos, orbital platforms and warships. Reports indicate the defenceless DTR outpost has taken heavy damage from a veritable storm of incoming fire.
The GTT have indicated that the battle was caused by a vessel returning to base from a long duty in deep space, which had not had its enemy lists reset, and they have offered to pay full reparations to the DTR.

Christmas Present From The Mohache
The MOH have endangered all known civilisation as we know it this Christmas, as they appear to have unleashed a force of what many reporters are hysterically calling 'ULTIMATE EVIL!' that threatens us all.
The story goes that the Mohache Exploration corps have stumbled across a very interesting asteroid in an outlying system. The following footage has been released on Periphery comms channels:

Action:
Using the Exploration Module MK4, Sensor MK4, and any custom-built probes as necessary, attempt to determine the nature of the dampening field at the core of the asteroid. Is this some form of exotic matter (and if so what?) or some form of artificially generated field, and if the latter what can be used to disable/destabilise it?
Result:
Investigation /Dust/Subsurface Scan/Central Core
Powerful scanners are used on the core of the asteroid after the discovery that something appears to be quite odd. The next discovery however arrives before the full calibration is completed. It would appear that the inner layers of dust are artificial; at least there are strong indications that they have been produced through artificial means, not unlike very low grade but very thick ablative armour.
The team are now uncertain about hammering the inner shell with a highly penetrating sensor beam. While it seems unlikely that anything alive is within, there might still be automated systems on reserve power - presuming that somebody or something hasn't just gone to a lot of trouble to foam spray a large ball of rock. This might be the equivalent to poking a sleeping tiger.

Action:
While gnawing on a particularly tasty piece of Ant Larvae, Scout Kkkclkf'fflld's ungainly mandibles brush against the Exploration Mk4 module's button that says 'engage prospecting drill'. This would be a mere inconvenience if the ship wasn't at the bottom of the deepest blast crater in the asteroidal body's armour braced against the thinnest area sensors were able to locate, in preparation to perform some more gentle sensor sweeps. The Hive equivalent of 'Ooops' isn't often heard in the peripheries.
Result:
Special Action/Rho CXVIII/'Accidents' Will Happen/208.49
The experienced officer somehow manages to engage the drilling rig while being in close proximity to the inner wall of the unknown object at the heart of the asteroid.
He is soon able to turn it off but not before there is a neat hole down through the ablative coating.
A collective sigh of relief is given by the attending crew as nothing happens in response.
A few hours later however the sensors pick up a 0.01C rise in temperature of the shell. This is outside any reasonable natural fluctuation.
Oh Crap!

Reports are in that since this incident, the surface temperature of the asteroid has risen geometrically week-on-week. It is anticipated to hit the melting point of water around week 6.209.
The Mohache exploration vessel responsible is expected to be somewhere on the other side of the peripheries when it does.

FLZ Enter Christmas Spirit
The Flagritz Empire have attempted to embrace the festive season, though unfortunately it seems as if they have somewhat gotten the wrong end of the stick, as they have released video footage of the one-time Falconian leader Osidiradadumpf engaged in what appears to be a Mosley-esque sex party, involving a few scantily dressed Falconian employees, a fair amount of alcohol and drugs, and a black latex perch.
The full video has not been released, though one of our reporters was invited to watch the whole tape at the Flagritz embassy here in Yank, and we can report that our dashing reporter is still feeling very queasy, and has requested extra holiday time and a large supply of brain bleach.
Our reporters last words before running out of the IGN headquarters were 'NO! NOT THE BAUBLES! OH GOD NOT THE BAUBLES!'
Frankly we don't want to know what he meant.

Flagritz Attack In Storm
We are getting confirmations that a Flagritz Wolfpack of stealth-based raiders has successfully engaged and destroyed a Falconian troop transport.
The transport is understood to have been carrying two full battalions of FCN troops who were en route to engage pirate positions on Inversion. FCN news agencies are reporting the loss of all hands.
The Flagritz raiders tangled briefly with a Broadsword escort, before disengaging as two dozen FCN warships turned up to seek their revenge.
The Flagritz have released the following statement to the press regarding the incident:

"FCN press statements are incorrect about damaged sustained, FLZ ships have proved again to be superior and able to cut, and surgically remove any target of our choice, deep in enemy territory, right next to their fleet.
The heroic U4 PACK LEADER (18764) continued on it's movement commanded by Capt. Maur. This was the only ship whose received damage to some internals. His report now we can publish.
" Lead us in, we shall draw their fire. Wolfpack de-cloak and engage the Troop transport as a priority, ignore the warship - fire all weapons ! Torpedo 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Klossss... Torpedoes on track. Tracking target, 5 seconds to impact. Point defence launched, warship closing Sir, boom, troop transport hit transport trying to evade launching it's own point defence. Pursue the troop ship, another round Torpedo 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Klossss...
U ships closing in hitting troop ship target, I see life forms blown out into space, booom, she is history round too complete. ... sucking....
Fire at the warship as we disengage the whole squadron.
In bound missiles MKIII kinetic - launch point defence start evasive manoeuvres. Launch decoys.
Large number of FCN warships coming on sensors attacking the whole squadron, incoming fire damage to one hull, internal damage to quarters, we have damage - continue on silent running, all ships evasion actions, we will touch up the paintwork later.
Ground party attempting to board a U ship , it failed, laughing, lets head on continue movement.
All ships clear of danger - damage report, get it fixed and prepare for our next targets in Storm "

The Editor would like to apologise for the lack of any sort of Christmas reference in the reporting of this story.

Correction
In news that is frankly almost impossible to believe, we have been asked by the Felini to point out that we made an error in reporting their Sabretooth class capital ships as being 125 hulls in size, when they are in fact 150 hulls.
We have had the guilty reporter responsible for this error dragged out behind our offices and beaten soundly, and he promises not to do it again.

Another Correction
Further embarrassment for our staff here at the IGN Newsroom, as the Falconian Republic have reminded us that they are no longer an Empire run by an Emperor, but a democratic Republic.
Old habits die hard. But in the name of progress, we randomly beat another reporter. And then hung some tinsel on him.

FCN Ground Party destroyed
A Falconian ground party was engaged by QNG defence troops as it attempted to move close to a QNG installation on Hurricane in Storm.
The incident has been described as an unfortunate mistake on the part of the FCN ground party, whose navigational GPS system appeared to malfunction, leading them to the wrong destination.
It is rumoured that the Flagritz may have sabotaged certain key Falconian navigational computers.

Pirate Large
That scourge of the spaceways, pirate Large has been reporting yet more success this week:
"Ahharrgghhhh me hearties.. It be aye. Pirate Large..
It be a bit steady goin aye it has, I as responded to quite a few sightings but me victims ad moved on by the times I gets there in most cases.
Except 2 unlucky beggars who feels me length over the last week aye they as.
Me first victim be the QNG Iron Junebug, a 75 huller she be, wiv an escort who tooks a few shots at me on the ole boarding approach. But me boys be up fer the task an attacks the 30 defenders on board the ship. The battle be quick an the crew decided to take it like a man an gives up. An by eck did they takes it like a man over the next day er 2 aye they did.
Me second victim be yesterday aye, the BHD 100 light huller Beast of Burden be spotted in open space an me boys on the "Golden Doubloon" went inte action, as did I on board her. The ship ad 91 crewman on board who put up some resistance, but this be one o those religious ships, they don't clean or anything an I got an infection off one of the hatches on getting in. Anyways suffice to say we tooks the ship, cargo an all, and also another hyperdrive to me uses aye thar be.
Ahharrgghhh..

A clean one fer yer at this ere Christmas time likes it be. An on that note may yee have a good en, ill be keeping me eyes peeled fer some of yer so don't gos drinkin an drivin and leaving yer ship out there unmanned, yee knows what could appen aye..
I as now boarded a differen ship aye so to keeps yer guessing.
any ways im sure you will hear more from the Glorious Adventures of the
pirate Large(and friends).............aahaaarrgh."

Outposts Recovered
The Imperial News Wire is carrying the following story:
Two outposts captured by the PIR in the Tycoon system, which had been engaged from orbit by COH and QNG forces for some time, were re-captured by Imperial ground forces this week. Both outposts had been seriously damaged by the orbital bombardments prior to the ground attacks, which had been delayed due to the Immediate Reaction Startrooper Battalion being deployed elsewhere. The outposts are to be returned to their original owners.

Fearsome Bombardment
The SMS have continued their awe-inspiring rain of death against a pirate outpost as reported last week, with the exciting news that yet more rubble has been blasted into smaller chunks of rubble, as reports indicate that the lone surviving pirate has long since gone quite insane from the constant explosions.
The office book is currently betting that maybe at current rates, the SMS will finally wipe out the outpost sometime around next Christmas.

Flagritz Raider Destroyed, or Was It?
A brief exchange of fire has occurred in the Storm system, as a Consortium patrol fired off some speculative volleys at a long-distance sensor contact that appeared to be a Flagritz raider.
Reports indicate that they hit and destroyed something. But in worrying news elsewhere, santas elves are reporting the destruction of both sled and reindeer.
Have the Consortium ruined Christmas by brutally murdering Santa Clause? Only time will tell!

Old News
This one slipped by us a few weeks ago, but we felt we should report the successful capture of a 900 hull FLZ platform by just 7 FCN crewmembers. 7 FLZ freighters narrowly escaped being captured during the same operation, but fled into a waiting consortium fleet and were destroyed.

More Old News
And we're even less sure how this one slipped past us, but the Falconian Republic has reported the successful assassination of the leader of the Ulian Stellar Nation!
"Falconian Republic Intelligence Services have located and terminated the USN Leader, Tarras. Let this be a lesson to warmongers everywhere.

Starting Location:
Docked at USN STARBASE Monist Baatar (32804) - Ulian System (87)
>TU 300: Assassinate {41570}
Starbase detected our actions.
Tarras (41570) was successfully eliminated.
Total TU cost for this action is 50
This action cost you 10000 stellars"
This makes the second high profile assassination in recent months.
We have no news on how the assassination has affected the Ulians, as they still have no official lines of communication with the Peripheries as a whole.

Even More Old News
Bloody hell, he's a clone. Crikey, who saw that coming eh?

**Festive Carols From Around The Peripheries**
It's that time of year, and we at the SSS/IGN enjoy bringing our viewers multi-cultural treats.
In an effort to get along with humanity, the QNG have been embracing the custom of 'Christmas Carols', and turned up en-masse at our offices in Yank to deliver the following rendition:

"On the first day of Bug-mas, the Flagritz gave to me, a Falconian in a Dew Tree
On the second day of Bug-mas, the Flagritz gave to me, two Gasup Birds and a Falconian in a Dew Tree.

They then deposited a large mountain of presents down our chimney.
Fortunately there were only seven marauding Meklan, and we were able to chase them out by throwing back-issues of the SSS at them.

**Special Report - New Pirate Group**
Calypso Awakens
It was a dull morning, but then morning's here were more often than not dull, the light from the dominant system star just did enough to take the edge off the night, creating a state of perpetual twilight during the daylight hours.
Calypso stirred, slowly at first, but then with more purpose as her weary body gradually began to wake, she slowly and deliberately propped herself up in her bed, and took in the scene, the room was a mess, the DTR captain, a prisoner for many years, was still tied to the bed post's exactly where she left him when she was finished with him last night, her head was pounding, no doubt the resultant effect of the cocktail of drugs and alcohol used to induce last night's slumber, her appetite called to her.
She summoned her chamber guards, who with ruthless efficiency dragged the poor captain back to his cell, his condition was poor, but then she had grown tired of him and he would recover; since the recent prisoner executions she was growing short of things to play with, there is after all only so much fun a girl can have with a Falconian or Mohache and the less said about the hostage Wimble the happier she would remain, she had on many occasions considered firing the little fur ball out of the hiport, but then he still got a slight draw from the locals in the bar, who would often feed him tip bits, when they grew tired of the acts of torture.
Her mind wandered, back to her calling, there was always the FET captain, who should have recovered well by now, he might do for a while, or the two from the CIA, though they were probably still to drained from the last time she had them, it is a shame the CIA battleship was so narrowly missed those weeks back, claiming the ship that made the attempt, her crew would have been well received. Then the dull profiteer from the GTT, who had never really taken her fancy, ice was the water that ran in those veins, the wimble would be more entertaining she thought, but needs must and there was a debt of service to be paid.
Calypso herself had often been told she were both gifted and blessed, and she mused over her voluptuous figure, even if her pleasures often deviated from the normally accepted practices of most, the prisoners in many respects could have had it worse from another's hand, she thought of the dread pirate large, who was noticeable only by his extended absence, of all the captains and crews she welcomed into her fold, his were the most giving and most generous with the information her scouts ships gathered, the trade off suited her nicely, she provided the information, running only a fleet of scouts and the men did their work, she received her toys, her objects of pleasure in return, all chained up and terrified, thus the barter was complete and Calypso would be happy.
Though it was enough of such thoughts for now, Calypso had a bar to open and business to run, there would be customers waiting.
The rest of the morning passed slowly, the odd ship put in for maintenance from time to time, with one whose crew stopped briefly for some R&R and worked over a few of the pleasure slaves, before rushing to their ship in pursuit of prey, but all in all it was a tiresome morning, as was often the case with her lot as manageress of the Sanctuary. Calypso hungered for the night to come.
The Sanctuary itself she inherited many years back, and had worked hard to make it a neutral place to feed her hunger, a place for the tired and weary traveller or those of a particular political orientation, to stop, rest and repair before moving on. On occasion there would be one she would tempt to stay; men she found would easily be lead to her chamber, often with nothing more than the promise of the night, a wink or flutter of the long lashes that covered her pit less brown eyes. The evening would surely bring her more in the way of pleasure, when the boys returned from their days hunting.
The evening drew in; night was her awakening, 6 ships made port this night and the crews descended. Disappointment hung in the air, it would seem the freighter chased made a narrow escape, there would be no new souls on which she could unleash her hunger, her mind drifted back to the imprisoned FET captain, her hatred would be satisfied, her lust fulfilled, she smiled to herself, licking her lips and running her tongue delicately down her pronounced incisors, Calypso was awake, galvanised and alive, yearning for the fullness of night yet to come and the feast of pain she would make them endure, perhaps tomorrow would bring her some new souls, the scouts would report in soon, perhaps, perhaps, but for now she would feed, a man would scream, beg and bend to her every whim, she would have her way, her pleasure, he might even enjoy some of it. Calypso would be satisfied the balance of things temporarily restored.

**Out Of Character Special Report - DTR history***
Following a PM from monkeyx, I'll try to explain the OOC history of the game to show how the current situation came about. He asked me

1) How are the IMP different today than before?
2) How does the DTR envisage a Republic taking hold without rebelling against the Empire?

and my answer became so long that I decided to put it on the forum as a history lesson, and for other old players to chime in and point out any mistakes and errors.
Note that when I write IMP, this also includes corporations with an IMP charter, namely GTT and FET.

Look at the initial setup of BSE, back in 1990 or so when it started: All affiliations available to players were part of the human Empire. You had
- FET (dodgy dealers, aff ability: Cloaking & specialized explorer ship), competitors/enemies of AFT
- AFT (honourable traders; aff ability: good first contact abilities with aliens & cargo ship with faster jump-capability), competitors/enemies of FET
- GTT (techno-corporation to exploit planets, aff ability: Improved production & very large cargo ships), competitors/enemies of SMS
- SMS (mining and terraforming corporation to develop planets, aff ability: Increased mine output & specialized ships: One for better GPIing, one super-large ore hauler), competitors/enemies of GTT
- IMP (Government/police, aff ability: Combat bonus & specialized ships: Designated warships). Enemies of the DTR.
- DTR (set up as general antagonists to everybody, sometimes I wonder if DTR wasn't meant to mean Deutsches Reich. Aff ability: Combat bonus & Warships). Enemies of the IMP.

As you can see, all players were initially IMP citizens save the DTR, who were already settled in the periphery when the Empire and its corporations expanded in that area and came across their old enemies.
The RIP came somewhat later, but I don't know when exactly. They were the pirates and everybody's enemy, a role nowadays taken by PIR.
Similarly, the SSL (Stellar Spices & Liquors, a mafia front for drug smuggling worse than the FET with similar abilities) were introduced at some point.

I joined the game in 1994 so the story up until then, is hearsay:
Players explored and colonied the Capellan periphery up to Yank (not sure when Solo came in).
FET was the strongest affiliation, DTR also strong - 20 warships was a huge warfleet in these days!
The proverbial alien invasion came in form of the Flagritz with their frighteningly huge baseships and humanity (i.e. DTR and IMP, with the
corporations sworn to follow the IMP lead) agreed that they needed to join forces against the FGZ. On the eve of the agreement, fighting broke out between the FET and DTR (something to do with allegations that the DTR was preparing an assault on the FET and secretly stockpiled weapons at a SSL base, I've been unable to clear up what really happened) and the DTR lost
three starbases to FET assaults. They felt backstabbed by the Empire.
Subsequently, the DTR provided the FGZ with information on the location of various Imperial bases hoping that the FGZ would wipe them out. The FGZ launched only a half-hearted offensive, then withdrew, and the anti-FGZ coalition turned against the DTR who were essentially wiped out. The DTR crown colony, Tate, was besieged but could not be taken. This deadlock was broken through the EEM who agreed to auction off the DTR base to the highest Imperial bidder, and what remained of the DTR was allowed to withdraw
through the blockade. The GTT won the auction and merged the DTR assets into their base, HQ. For the next ten or so years their power base largely came from having almost doubled their own colony base early on in the game, in conjunction with their production bonus.
The DTR at that time was regarded as a dead affiliation, and only one or two players remained (Nik Kelly and perhaps another).

From a GM point of view, this left a gap in the setup of the game - the IMP had no antagonist. So the GM created an anti-empire that mirrored the IMP (to a degree). This was the CNF, with the CIA (FET counterpart), BHD and the now-defunct DIE. They were set up in the Darkfold periphery that connected to the rest of the game via the Yank system.
At some point during this time, the AFT renounced their imperial charter to become totally independent traders.
The DTR remained as a minor power, and received a modest new base in CNF territory. The backstory was that, fleeing from the IMP after the Flagritz war, the DTR had made contact with the CNF, another human faction who had separated from the IMP in a civil war but then been cut off by a vital transit system star going nova. This put the DTR in the CNF camp by GM decree, though you could say it was against the DTR profile. Then again, you could also say that the DTR had totally lost a big war and was eating humble
pie in the CNF camp to simply survive.

The CNF then took over the role of general enemy to the IMP and both sides conducted the mutual raiding that kept the conflict alive in the game. The DTR was recuperating slowly and had only little part in this, fighting in support of the CNF occasionally.
It was during this time that the homepage was written and the aforementioned text created.

In 1994, an unexpected influx of new players (myself and a couple of friends who almost all chose the DTR) unexpectedly brought the starving DTR back onto the stage and out of the CNF's shadow. The Arachnid and Titan systems were newly discovered shortly afterwards, and before long the DTR was preparing to leave CNF territory and set up shop in Arachnid, to regain
autonomy.
Totally unrelated events (the chance discovery of an alien bunker beneath a DTR base in a CNF system) caused tensions; the DTR player involved and the CNF PD at the time were soon butting heads and the planned DTR exodus from CNF territory turned into a conflict on razor's edge from an all-out shooting war when the CNF refused to cede Arachnid to the DTR.
In this situation, the DTR discovered (were given by the GM, OOC) Venice and T.tauri and moved all of their assets into these systems. Relations with the CNF remained tense and the DTR was looking for new allies to deter depredations by either the CNF or IMP, both of whom were considered enemies at the time.

It would be the DEN and DOM who became the DTR's new allies, and formed the famous DD&D (or 3D) Alliance. Combined, we had a very strong and active player base, and made excellent use of each affiliation's special abilities.
Within weeks of forming the Alliance the DEN found themselves in a war with the HXM over the possession of the Acrux sytem. Depending on how you look at it the war was either a draw or lost by the Alliance, but the lesson was well learnt and within less than a year the DD&D Alliance was the ultimate powerhouse of the game that galvanized political powers for years to come in the game.
Intensely active in joint projects with their new allies, the DTR increasingly operated across all peripheries and systems and our focus
slowly turned away from the IMP.

It was only shortly before conversion from BSE to Phoenix that the CNF discovered a way back to the Inner Empire of humanity, some time after they had proved the current Emperor was a clone and thus not a legitimate heir of the Throne. This brought the attention of the DTR back to humanity in general and especially their enmity with the Empire, and the DTR forged an alliance with the CNF to return to the Inner Empire, remove the Empire and jointly set up the Inner Republic there, imagined as a Commonwealth. (We felt this was totally our obligation according to the DTR profile.)
The DD&D Alliance had, at this point, already been weakened from within as the DOM felt constrained by the high ethic demands of the DTR and the DEN leadership changed to a more protectionist one who would prefer less DTR presence in their home systems. The DEN and DOM had also had recent military conflicts with the CNF, and so were unhappy with the DTR/CNF alliance. The DD&D Alliance continued on paper only.

The joint DTR/CNF thrust into the Inner Empire bogged down quickly, however, after initial fighting in some border systems. The Empire was always a step ahead of the DTR, and by the time we managed to insert our own operatives the GTT and their Inner Empire mother-corporation GCS were already embroiled in a civil war; the Inner Empire had crumbled and mass destruction devastated entire worlds.

At around this time, the DOM and DEN secretly conspired with the IMP against the DTR and launched a massive assault. The fighting was short but extremely brutal. As a result, the Alliance was no more and the DTR lost some valuable assets in DEN territory, but outside of DEN space the DTR defences held firm. Before long, all sides retreated to lick their wounds.

The (periphery) IMP were one of the last chances for order in the Inner Empire, and in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe taking place the DTR even set aside our differences with the GTT and gave them concessions to ship food from a DTR world to the starving Inner Empire population. The relationship between the DTR, IMP and CNF was redefined on the background of the civil war. The IMP are no longer synonymous with the Empire, and the sheer extent of damage done requires better solutions than military conquest.

While the setup in 1990 was pretty straightforward, the situation as it has unfolded is very complex and has lots of grey area. The entire game has changed a lot, and while the DTR is still trying to bring light into the darkness, Mica is a very devious GM!
That is why I would not say we U-turned. The situation has evolved far beyond the setup, and Mica's storyline is incredibly more complex than anything BSE had in its early days.

Stephan.

Solo claim swings back and forth

The situation in Solo appears to be getting even more heated. First the NHS dropped 600,000 troops to contest the system and then the DTR answered with enough troops of their own to trump the NHS claim. The NHS found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim up to 750,000 and once again the DTR answered, bringing Solo back under DTR control. Now the NHS have had a look down the back of the sofa and found yet more troops, taking the contesting claim to a massive 900,000 trained troops. We wait to see if the DTR have an answer to this. We can only guess where all these troops are coming from, but what is clear is that the established affiliations clearly have far larger armies than many thought.

NHS attempt to claim Solo away from DTR

In a shock move the NHS have contested the Solo claim with a huge garrison of 600,000 trained troops. In a move that nobody saw coming, especially as it was unknown the NHS had such a large force of troops to draw upon, the NHS seem to be provoking a response from the DTR. Currently there has been no word from the DTR in how they are going to deal with this claim jumping, although rumours are that they are pretending the Solo claim doesn't really matter to them and so action is unlikely. However this may be a smokescreen and we may yet see the DTR's powerful fleet cause havoc in the system of Solo, which has for a long time been an important junction and fought over by many different factions.

DNA Chairman TonTon resigns

The following communication has been leaked from the DNA to the GTT's PD.

Greetings CEO Fox.
It regrets me to have to inform to you that the DNA nation state will be renouncing its claim on Aladdin system following a ceremony planet side, shortly.
However, it gives me great pleasure to have to inform you that these ceremonies are being planned by Vladimir Tavikovitch, the South Road Traffic Coordinator. He is also responsible for all DNA and .ore. assets in the Outer Naplian (Capellan) periphery so if there are any further issues, please take it up with him.
For any and all other matters, please forward your request directly to the DNA directorate services at NexusID: DNA people.
The Foreign Ministry objects one last time to your illegal claim jump of Aladdin, but we realise it is time to de-escalate.
Normally i would sign off with Naambta, but doing so would be hypocritical. Let me say good riddance instead.
I hereby resign in protest!

Chairman TonTon,
Foreign Minister, DNA
cc: Directorate Services personnel coordinator - !urgent resignation!

DTR threaten WMB with fines for multiple breaches of DTR Law

Lady Sylvansight of the DTR has issued a fine of 1,000,000 stellars to the Wimbles for multiple breaches of DTR Penal and Territorial Law. This seems a very brave move of the DTR to risk upsetting the huge and warlike WMB when they also have the rival NHS Solo system claim to deal with. No word has been recieved yet that the Wimbles are going to pay, but if the formidable WMB warfleet is seen heading for the DTR home systems we will know what their thought are on the matter. The DTR and WMB fleets going head to head would be a sight to behold.

DNA and GTT clash over Aladdin system claim while Pirates look on.

The GTT have this week launched an attack on the DNA outpost in Aladdin, in what appears to be little more than a turkey shoot. Around 100,000 GTT Naplian Startroopers attacked the DNA position to remove the rival system claim. Reports indicate the DNA garrison were taken by surprise and lost control of the base in the first few hours of the fighting. The base has since been reflagged from [Free Naplian Capital] Peaceful Protest to [Loyal Naplian Capital] DNA claim Ended so it's fair to say there was a clear message being sent by the GTT. We have been waiting for the DNA leadership to comment but so far they have been unusually silent. No doubt when they have crawled out from under their desks they will have something to say on the matter.

While this attack was going on several pirate ships were also seen in Aladdin, according to the GTT in what may be true or may be a diversion, with reports of a pirate GP and scout being destroyed while a 150HH pirate warship slipped away and escaped from incoming anti-pirate patrols.

Secret meeting of the EEM

A recent communication intercepted by one of our top reporters today made us aware of a meeting of the EEM. This is underway in a top secret location called Black Pool, which sounds suspiciously like the lair of a pirate band. After pulling in many favours, we were able to identify some of the attending members. On the bases that they won't be named we were able to find out some slight information of the subjects to be discussed at the meeting and one thing is for certain, there could be huge impacts to the lives of everybody living in the galaxy. Details to follow. When the shadowy figures of the EEM come together with the top political players in a pirate base the possibilities are endless!

You are never more than 6 systems from a RAT ðŸ€

A new saying has arisen in the bars and spaceport of starbases throughout the many peripheries; you are never more than 6 systems from a RAT.

It is understood that this saying originated in Yank and spread by trade vessels to peripheries far and wide. Many starbases have heightened their security and added additional sensors and locks to various entry points including foul and grey water outfalls. Beer and drug stocks are undergoing increased proofing to avoid the critters gaining entry and consuming the stockpiles.

Will this present as a new plague of proportions never before seen or is this some simple urban myth being spread for the amusement of some mischievous entity? Who knows, but to be certain... check the shadows.

This year we will again be returning to the Briardene Hotel. They were welcoming, the bar didn't run out of beer pre-covid and there was room for quiet chats. Along with Wetherspoons there is the Victoria just down the road (Sam Smiths - last time beer was around 2 shillings per pint and a full round was less than £10).

Mostly drinking beer and talking toot though we have a good few things on the agenda.

Bookings are done directly with the hotel. Book by phone and say that you are with KJC Games

Dog days are over

With the fall of the DEN and the implosion of their home territory as the AFT, DTR and GTT moved in, it was unlikely the Dewiek would rise again. The DWP gave the species a little hope with the Dewiek Pocket Periphery kept under lock and key. But news has reached us of the AFT's penetration of this private area of space that's been locked down. With a base and claim in one of the three visible systems it seems that the end of the Dewiek is near. A once noble and aggressive race, determined to make an impact on the galaxy is now little more than a species that lives under the command of others. A sad end to a once powerful species that used to control a significant part of known space.

Pirate activity continues

Yet more reports of pirate activity have been received, one from the WMB, losing a freighter in Solo and another from the FET who reported they had engaged and hit the attacking pirate ship with several weapons before it managed to make off with it's prize. Hopefully the pirate ship took significant damage and will now be out of action for some time. The Corewards periphery seems to have been plagued with pirates recently and many travellers would welcome a break from attacks.

MEK incursion into Corewards

The FET and GTT have mounted a joint venture into Nog-Kesri to tackle a MEK force. It isn't known where they have come from, with the only other MEK ships seen so far being located in the Orion Spur. The lack of a known link between where they have appeared in Corewards and the Orion Spur has caused some concern among planetary populations as who knows where they could turn up next! Fortunately the combined FET/GTT task force dealt the MEK a heavy blow and the threat has been eradicated. But we all know this is unlikely to be the last we hear of the MEK in Corwards and we would encourage ship captains to keep a keen eye on thier sensor screens when travelling near Nog-Kesri.

    Aladdin faces ongoing DNA/GTT tension

The tensions between the DNA and GTT in the Coptuv system recently spilled over into the DNA system of Aladdin. A significant party of GTT ground troops has reinforced one of their bases in the system and claimed it, forcing the system claim into turmoil as the DNA finds itself under threat of losing the system. With the DNA chairman asking for help, several affiliations have been seen sending ships to evacuate any in the local population that want to escape the GTT. But so far not a shot has been fired and despite the AFT, FEL and DTR assistance no reisistance to the claim jump has been encountered so far. It remains to be seen if the DNA and it's friends will scatter before this hostile take over or put in a last minute counter claim to thwart GTT intentions.

    Increasing pirate activity

Recent reports indicate a new surge in pirate attacks with the AFT and GTT reporting ships lost. Knowing how some don't like to advertise losses we wouldn't be surprised if this is the tip of the iceberg. Reports passed to us show the ship PIR Scavenger running ID 43174 and another ship of the same name running ID 68668 have both been in action with successful boarding attempts. It's unknown whether these are seperate ships or the same ship reregistered, but our information suggests that it would be hard for these pirates to cover the space where these attacks happened with just one ship. One thing is for sure, be on your guard as open space is not as safe as it once was.

GCE ships loitering in deep space

After the fall of the GCE and a lot of their assets being shared or purchased it was thought that the affiliation was no more. Yet deep space scans indicate that there is still a significant number of GCE warships holding station in deep space between Coptuv and Yank on the transport route into the Corwards Arm. Nobody knows what these ships are up to and why they are still flagged GCE, but our best guess is that are captains either awaiting new orders or owners after the fall of the GCE command structure.

    Tension in the Corewards Arm

With the DNA obtaining several ex-GCE bases in the Coreward Arm it has found itself in the middle of an asset grab of serious proportions and aggression. Our reporters witnessed several GTT troop carriers heading for the Corewards system as the DNA published information suggesting they were accidental owners of the system and that the assets were to be moved on. As the GTT ships started to arrive the bases were quickly passed to the CIA, thus thwarting the GTT intentions as they were hardly likely to start dropping troops on their allies bases. This shrew move by the DNA seems to have calmed matters in the Coreward arm temporarily, although the shift in relations between the GTT and DNA has taken a negative turn. When asked what their next move might be the GTT refused to comment.

    GCE collapse

The GCE are no more, save for some scattered light freighters. The affiliation which enjoyed a sharp rise and profiltable relations with many has ceased trading. Rumors point to the GTT buying up GCE assets before stripping the rival corporation of anything of value. Although our reporters at the SSS have been quick to point out that any GCE assets not in GTT systems have been taken over by both the DNA and FET. So it seems many different affiliations were able to profit from this development including a new group called the HSH who appear to have taken over the GCE war fleet. No doubt many in the peripheries will be watching with interest where these ships are used, who the HSH are and how they were able to get thier hands on so many warships so quickly.

    Secudus trials

In the Cluster Secudus has continued his trials, claiming to root out terrorists working against the Empire. With tends of thousands of beings being sent to the camps or worse. There is no sign of these actions stopping as the NHS clamp down on the locals and bring them under the harsh control of the Empire.

    Persistent Browser-Based Game (PBBG)

I’ve played on and off for approximately 10 years, over a 20 year spell. After some interesting debate on the in-game forum, I did wonder what, exactly, has kept drawing me back to the game, when for so many others I’ve generally lost interest after a few months.

Ultimately, I think it is a combination of automation (that allows the game to handle thousands of positions to interact on a daily basis) coupled with Special Actions (that allow the story arc to develop in a way that could not be catered for by a set of predefined list of available orders).
